Construction - Superintendent

The Superintendent’s primary function will be to manage, coordinate, supervise and direct all field work on a construction project to include the company’s workforce and subcontractors assigned to the project. The Superintendent will be physically present while work is ongoing on the project site. The Superintendent will ensure that the work is completed within the specified timeframe and will cooperate with Safety and Quality Control personnel to ensure that all work is completed safely and in accordance with the approved drawings and specifications for the project. The Superintendent will report directly to the Project Manager and/or Construction Division Manager on the project(s) to which he/she is assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Orchestrate and field manage long-term construction projects from mobilization to completion.

· Ensure the work is carried out in a safe workmanlike manner in accordance with the approved safety plan for the project.

· Review engineering drawings and specifications to understand the work required.

· Review subcontracts to understand contracted scope of work.

· Determine what methods of construction will be utilized to execute the work and help develop Activity Hazard Analysis’ accordingly.

· Document daily work activities with photographs and generate daily reports.

· Plan, schedule and manage construction work so it is completed on time.

· Generate and implement the 3-week look ahead schedule weekly with all subcontractors on the project.

· Perform take-offs, quantity estimates and make material purchases and procure rental equipment as necessary.

· Communicate with the Project Manager daily to update status of the project and to review and resolve project related issues as they arise.

· Communicate and coordinate all work with the Site QC Manager on scheduling QC meetings, future work activities, inspections and on-site testing as required.

· Communicate and coordinate all work with the Site Safety and Health Officer on site to ensure workers are complying with the approved safety plan for the project.

· Promptly correct deficiencies.

· Help the Project Manager generate RFIs as necessary

· Document, compile and organize all red-line changes to the construction drawings and prepare for final submittal.

· Maintain cordial relations with the clients, suppliers, and the construction staff.

· Perform other duties and functions as required for the successful and timely completion of the project.

Minimum 10 years of construction experience as a superintendent on preferably US Army Corps of Engineers or other federal type projects with 5 of those years in heavy civil related construction projects.

· OSHA 30-hour certification and CPR/First Aid certification

· Familiar with EM 385-1-1 safety requirements

· Knowledgeable about various construction tools, methods, and equipment used in multi-disciplined projects.

· Possess good managerial and organizational skills and leadership qualities with the ability to speak with clarity.

· Must be able to read, write and converse fluently in the English language.

· Ability to manage and oversee multiple activities on a project at the same time with the ability to work under pressure.

· Ability to interpret critical path schedules, 3-week schedules and construction drawings.

· Proficient with computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and Adobe Acrobat.

· Ability to forecast, plan and schedule all construction activities with all subcontractors on the project.

· Must be able to pass a background check

· Must have a valid and current drivers license.

· Must be willing to travel.
