Job Summary

General responsibility for auditing, rebuilds, and training of packaging equipment to maintain base conditions, ensuring correct parts are ordered for the needed equipment, utilizes team of maintenance technicians/apprentices to perform rebuild work and use knowledge through the rebuild process to train said employees. This position will work closely with the Production Scheduler, Maintenance Planner, Packaging Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Leads, Packaging Manager and Plant Manager to plan for scheduled maintenance, rebuild work, and technical training.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Train and coach maintenance technicians in maintaining packaging equipment to base condition.
  • Perform equipment audits for wear parts and ensure appropriate parts are ordered.
  • Identification of critical spare parts to be stocked in the storeroom.
  • Work with Maintenance Planner, Production Scheduler, Pkg Maintenance Manager, Packaging Manager and Plant Manager to plan for and schedule needed equipment maintenance downtime.
  • Work with Maintenance Planner to ensure appropriate parts are ordered and delivered prior to scheduled work.
  • Lead the rebuilds/maintenance windows work with maintenance technicians/apprentices and establish appropriate training to increase current skill levels.
  • Develop the standard asset care strategy for packaging equipment including centerlines, clean inspect lubricate, PMs, predictive technologies, and critical spare parts.
  • Work alongside Packaging Maintenance Manager in evaluation of and tracking progress of each maintenance technician to measure development and update training plans to increase current skill levels.
  • Identify capital needs focused on equipment performance.
  • Budget expenses according to rebuild plans.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies including OSHA, FDA, FSMA and GMP guidelines.

  • Demonstrate leadership and ability to get results.
  • Demonstrate a coaching mindset.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing and process improvements.
  • Must be available for “on call” as needed.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three to five years maintenance experience, preferably in Packaging Maintenance.
  • College graduate in related field or minimum of ten years’ experience in packaging maintenance field.
  • Ability to react effectively to changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of 5S and Lean Manufacturing principles a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including computerized maintenance management system.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-centered environment.
