LRS Federal is currently hiring an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support our portfolio of work with the US Department of Veterans Affairs, US Department of Agriculture, and the General Services Administration. The facilities to be supported by the mechanical engineer include hospitals, research spaces, office buildings, and administrative buildings. The type of engineering work will be varied and will include engineering investigations, mechanical design, construction phase services, and/or commissioning support.

Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Mechanical Engineer on multi-discipline project teams.
  • Lead the design and project delivery process on assigned projects.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports.
  • Design facility mechanical systems including water, chilled water, wastewater, HVAC, cooling towers/condensers, boiler/steam or hot water systems, compressed air, and other plumbing systems.
  • Completion of engineering calculations and oversight of mechanical design using AutoCAD MEP. Revit experience or oversight is a plus.
  • Assist engineers in system evaluation and application recommendations.
  • Oversee the coordination and verification of project deliverables and adherence to company and client standards.
  • Develop specifications, interface with on-site project teams.
  • Observe installations.
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to interact with our valued team members and clients.
  • Excellent computer skills including AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.


This position is offered as a remote position, but will require semi-annual travel to our headquarters office in Maryland and travel, as needed, to client sites across the United States. Travel is covered by the company.

*Minimum Qualifications Include*:

- MUST possess a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineer

- 6 years of experience in mechanical system design and construction with an A/E MEP company

- Professional Engineer registration preferred

- Commissioning experience preferred

- Proficiency in drafting software

- Ability to plan and organize tasks, establish and meet suspense dates, and create acceptable work products independent of supervision

- Ability to interact tactfully and diplomatically with others, have strong written and oral communication skills, and function under pressure due to intense project interest or time limitations

- Ability to handle complex projects requiring considerable creativity and judgment to resolve design problems, and assist in making decisions in situations where standard engineering methods, procedures, and techniques may not be applicable
