The San Diego Tourism Authority is a private, non-profit, mutual benefit corporation composed of approximately 900 member organizations, businesses, local governments, and individuals seeking a better community through the visitor industry. San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA) members include tourism-related entities in such categories as lodging, dining, arts & attractions, shopping, and transportation, among others, as well as other companies indirectly involved in the visitor industry.

As a sales and marketing organization, the main objective of SDTA is to promote and market San Diego County as a vacation destination and meetings and convention site. SDTA also represents and supports the interests of the visitor industry as a whole.

We are looking for a Communications Coordinator who will assist the communications team with the execution and delivery of the public relations program of work, assist in meeting the department’s goal for positive press coverage and serve as administrative coordinator for the department.

General responsibilities:

  • Assist Senior PR Manager and Director of Communications with media pitching and writing and distributing press releases.
  • Research media prospects, including helping to identify social media influencers, bloggers and traditional media for positive destination coverage.
  • Maintain email lists and research new contacts/publications to add to lists.
  • Review press clips and oversee monthly coverage reports, send out clips to SDTA members and agency partners.
  • Assist media with inquiries on fact checking, photo/b-roll and press kit requests.
  • Develop and coordinate itineraries for visiting media, and make travel arrangements including airfare, hotel, meals, activities, etc.
  • Program press releases and other department emails in MAPP email tool.
  • Serve as department administrator by processing expense reports and purchase orders and creating program performance reports and presentations.
  • Assist with securing photography for press use and maintaining image usage rights.
  • Coordinate other significant Communications projects, as needed and assigned.

Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal, written communication and editing skills
  • Proactive with the ability to work independently
  • Strong attention to details
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including professionalism and integrity
  • Strong organizational skills with a capacity to manage multiple projects efficiently, change course as needed, and meet deadlines
  • BA or BS required or equivalent years of education and experience.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in public relations, communications or marketing required.
  • Excellent communication, writing, presentation, cross-functional collaboration and relationship building skills are required.
  • Must have excellent project management and time management skills.
  • Experience with email marketing systems and media databases and clipping systems.
  • Understanding of analytics, statistics or higher-level math is a plus.
  • Experience in tourism and/or a travel related industry is a plus.
  • Bi-lingual/biliterate English/Spanish is a plus.

Annualized salary range is $55,500 to $62,800 DOE.
