Job Description:
Are you passionate about sustainability and eager to gain hands-on experience? Do you want to make a difference while developing valuable skills in project management, community engagement, and youth mentorship?

As a Sustainable Projects Apprentice, you will contribute to a variety of initiatives that advance Spark-Y's mission. Working closely with our staff, you'll assist in planning and executing projects focused on urban agriculture, green infrastructure, and community resilience. You'll also have the opportunity to mentor and guide younger interns, fostering their growth and skill development. This role offers a unique chance to explore various aspects of sustainability work while building your professional toolkit.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of sustainability projects, which may include urban farming, habitat restoration, and green infrastructure
  • Collaborate with staff to develop project plans, timelines, and deliverables
  • Participate in hands-on work, such as planting, construction, and site maintenance
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to younger interns as they contribute to projects
  • Support the creation and delivery of educational content related to project themes
  • Engage in professional development through on-the-job training, workshops, and other learning opportunities
  • Attend staff meetings and provide updates on project progress
  • Travel to various project sites within the Twin Cities metro area

Eligibility:
  • 18-30 years of age
  • Residents of the City of Minneapolis (ages 18-24) or Ramsey County (ages 18-30)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Interest in or knowledge of sustainability, agriculture, community development, or related fields
  • Experience working with youth or in mentorship roles
  • Comfort working in outdoor settings

Compensation & Benefits:
  • $500 stipend upon training completion; $15/hour thereafter
  • Opportunities for professional certification and skill development
  • Metro Transit pass available upon request
  • Mileage reimbursement for qualifying work-related travel
