Job description

Description The Sustainability Intern reports to the Director of Sustainability within the Department of Infrastructure. The ideal candidate has experience in community engagement and sustainability, as well as a genuine passion for advancing the sustainability and livability of Jersey City. The Sustainability Intern will work on a variety of projects for the Division, including community outreach and educational campaigns, general office administration, data collection, and program development.

This position will offer the opportunity training in essential arborist skills such as pruning, tree planting, and tree care. Below are a list of expected job duties and expected skills. Examples of Duties Coordinates community outreach and educational campaigns including digital and printed materials.

Tree site surveying and urban forestry related work. Assist in the development of the city's environment youth groups. Attends public meetings and events on behalf of the office.

Assists in the organization and promotion of public meetings and events. Performs a range of administrative tasks including, but not limited to scheduling, organizing meetings, and coordination with the other department. Coordinates volunteers for various initiatives, as needed.

Performs other tasks as needed to support the overall mission and immediate goals of the Division of Sustainability. Qualifications Essential Skills: Flexibility and willingness to take on a variety of tasks as the need arises in order to meet municipal priorities. Ability to engage with the community and residents in a polite manner.

Ability to effectively work as part of a team. Ability to organize and summarize data and other information. Preferred: Tree and plant identification.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to analyze and resolve problems effectively.
