Job description

About Bosun

Bosun is a boutique recruiting and staffing firm focused on connecting construction and skilled trades companies with top talent. We specialize in direct hire placements for clients in restoration, mitigation, and construction - including regional and national brands like Paul Davis Restoration.

We are a small, intentional team built by women who left corporate America to do meaningful work on their own terms. We are high-achieving and results-driven, and we also believe deeply in balance. This isn't a race to build the biggest firm - it's about building a sustainable business that we enjoy running, serving clients we believe in, and creating space for both career and family.

We run lean and operate smart. We use AI tools, clear processes, and good judgment to stay efficient and we expect everyone on our team to do the same.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a part-time Recruiter (Independent Contractor) who can hit the ground running, manage their own workload without daily direction, and build genuine relationships with both clients and candidates.

This role starts at approximately 5 hours per week and grows as you demonstrate the ability to take on more. It is not a role for someone who needs to be told what to do next. It is a role for someone who looks at the situation, figures out what needs to happen, and does it - then tells you what they did.

You will manage the full recruiting cycle on behalf of our clients, from the initial discovery call through candidate placement, working within our defined systems (HubSpot, Breezy HR, Zoom, AI) while bringing your own initiative, judgment, and relationship skills to every interaction.

What This Role Actually Requires

We want to be direct about what success looks like here because the right person will appreciate the honesty.

This role requires someone who is both driven and warm - a combination that is genuinely rare. You need to be the kind of person who proactively checks the calendar, flags something before being asked, and sends the follow-up without a reminder. AND you need to be the kind of person whose clients and candidates feel genuinely cared for, not just processed.

If you need frequent check-ins to know what to do next, this is not the right fit. If you're all hustle and no heart, this is not the right fit either. We are looking for someone who brings both every day.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct video discovery calls with new clients to understand hiring needs, culture, and ideal candidate profile
  • Create SEO-optimized job descriptions using client input, discovery call notes, and AI tools
  • Source and screen candidates in Breezy HR daily
  • Conduct video interviews with candidates
  • Build client-facing candidate presentation emails for every top candidate written to make the client excited to meet them
  • Coordinate interviews between clients and candidates end to end
  • Maintain accurate records in HubSpot (client side) and Breezy HR (candidate side) - always in sync
  • Attend weekly 15-minute video client check-ins, prepared to speak to current pipeline status
  • Proactively identify and flag anything that needs attention - don't wait to be asked

What We're Looking For

  • Self-directed and proactive - you figure out what needs to happen and do it. You don't wait to be told, and you don't ask questions you could answer by looking things up yourself.
  • Relational and genuine - clients and candidates should feel like they matter to you, because they do. You build trust quickly and maintain it consistently.
  • Tech-savvy and AI-forward - you are comfortable with CRM and ATS platforms, embrace AI tools as a core part of how you work, and are always looking for a smarter, faster way to do things.
  • Detail-oriented - pipelines are current, emails go out on time, nothing falls through the cracks (but also, you're human and we understand that).
  • Experienced - background in recruiting, account management, or high-touch client service. Construction or trades industry experience is a strong plus.
  • Coachable - you receive feedback well, adapt quickly, and take ownership when something doesn't go right.

Tools You'll Use

  • HubSpot - client deal pipeline, task management, email logging
  • Breezy HR - applicant tracking and candidate management
  • Zoom + Google Calendar - discovery calls, client check-ins, candidate interviews
  • Calendly - scheduling links for outreach
  • AI - job descriptions, interview questions, candidate summaries
  • Gmail - synced to HubSpot so client communication is automatically logged

Compensation

  • Independent contractor arrangement - remote, fully flexible scheduling
  • $30/hour, paid for hours worked - this is a strong starting rate that reflects the level of ownership we expect
  • Hours begin at approximately 5 per week and grow as your client load and demonstrated capability increase, up to 20 hours per week
  • Commission eligibility tied to client revenue growth via upsells in recognition of the relationships you build that bring clients back

Why This Role

This role is for someone who has real skills, knows how to use them, and is looking for work that fits their life without sacrificing the quality of what they produce. You'll work on real searches with real clients, follow a clear and well-documented process, and have the support of a small team that values doing things well.

If you are someone who gets energy from connecting people, takes pride in the details, and wants to be part of something intentional rather than just clocking in - this is worth a conversation.

How to Apply

We review applications on a rolling basis. To be considered, please submit your resume. Next steps will be a one-way video interview answering questions, then a 30-minute Zoom interview will follow.

We are looking for someone who can start light and grow with us quickly. If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
