Nursery Maintenance Helper- Seasonal

Job Summary:

Nursery maintenance helpers are asked to provide basic guidance and advice to customers on the location of products within the nursery while tending to the care and presentation of the nursery products.

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Fertilizing, weeding, pruning, repotting, waterings, and mulching of plants, shrubs, and trees in the nursery and greenhouse using hand and gardening tools.

· Provide some advice and guidance to customers related to plant choices and care.

· Inspects plants to assess quality and health and to identify any signs of disease or pests.

· Monitoring plants for health and care.

· Assisting customers with purchases, operating the nursery’s point of sale system.

· Help with incoming and outgoing shipments.

· Maintain the inventory of nursery contents.

· Maintain clean work areas, grounds, and landscaping.

· Monitor the irrigation systems for proper functioning.

· Maintain records for plants related to size, watering, feeding, and products used.

· Perform other duties as required.

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Good verbal communication skills.

· Good interpersonal and customer service skills.

· A general, broad understanding of plants and their care and growing conditions is best but not required.

Education and Experience:

· High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

· Prior experience with plant care is always good but plenty of on-the-job training is provided.

Physical Requirements:

· Prolonged periods of walking, standing, lifting, and moving items.

· Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

· Must be able to push, pull, bend, lift, stretch, and climb in order to care for plants and arrange them within the nursery.

Schedule:

• Day shift
• Monday to Friday
• Weekend availability

Pay is competitive based on skills and knowledge. Includes paid holiday hours, PTO and 401k match.
