Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Our VP of Engineering will drive innovation while developing cutting-edge products and building a scalable and secure technical infrastructure. You will lead technical efforts to develop proprietary software optimizing frontline warehouse operators and streamlining supply chain processes. Responsibilities include guiding product development, defining technology stack and architecture, and fostering cross-functional collaboration. You will help recruit top engineering talent, implement agile practices, and ensure compliance with data security and industry regulations. Driving strategic planning, engaging with customers for feedback, and contributing to the Ox's growth initiatives will guide your vision and leadership goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strong technical leadership to the engineering team, guiding them in developing innovative AI solutions that optimize warehouse operations and enhance supply chain efficiency.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation within the engineering team.
  • Work closely with the product leaders to translate business requirements and customer needs into technical requirements and product roadmap.
  • Drive the development of proprietary software solutions that leverage AI and machine learning techniques to address specific challenges faced by frontline warehouse operators and supply chain managers.
  • Define and evolve the technology stack and architecture of the software platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Adept at understanding and designing scalable, secure, and reliable systems architectures, including; knowledge of microservices, distributed systems, cloud computing, and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is essential with abilities to leverage them optimizing scalability, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Experience in data management concepts, relational and NoSQL databases, data warehousing, WMS/ERP platforms, and data analytics tools (i.e.Big data technologies like Hadoop and Spark are a plus).
  • Knowledgeable about security best practices, encryption, vulnerability assessments, and threat mitigation strategies to protect the company's data and systems.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) and continual assessment of their value in developing innovative products and services at Ox.
  • IoT concepts, protocols, and technologies (i.e., IoT platforms, device connectivity, and data integration).
  • Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, communicating complex technical concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Work alongside HR/Recruiting to lead the hiring efforts to attract top engineering talent with expertise in AI, machine learning, software engineering, and related fields.
  • Mentor and coach engineering team members, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Implement and promote agile development practices within the engineering team to ensure rapid iteration, continuous delivery, and responsiveness to changing market dynamics and customer feedback.
  • Establish robust quality assurance processes and practices to ensure the reliability, accuracy, and performance of the software solutions.
  • Implement automated testing frameworks and tools to streamline the testing process and improve overall product quality.
  • Ensure that the software solutions adhere to industry best practices and regulatory requirements related to data security, privacy, and compliance, especially in the context of handling sensitive supply chain data.
  • Contribute to the overall strategic planning and execution of the company's growth initiatives, leveraging your technical expertise to identify new market opportunities, partnerships, and areas for innovation.
  • Engage directly with customers to understand their pain points, challenges, and use cases, and incorporate their feedback into the product development process.
  • Build strong relationships with key customers and stakeholders to drive customer success and retention.
  • Stay relevant with emerging technologies and trends that have the potential to impact our industry (i.e, blockchain, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), edge computing, and quantum computing) and evaluate their applicability to the Ox's product offerings..

EDUCATION & RELATED EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • M.S. or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering from Top 10 Program or certifications in AI, machine learning, or business management, preferred.
  • 12+ years of professional experience in software engineering/development with a track record of delivering successful software products or platforms.
  • 8+ years of building and leading teams of 10 or more while maintaining performance and accountability by providing strategic guidance, thought leadership, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Proficiency in AI, architecture, software development, and engineering with a proven track record of applying these technologies to solve real-world problems.
  • Supply chain, warehousing, and logistics knowledge and understanding are a plus (this includes knowledge and understanding of WMS/ERP systems/platforms utilized in these environments).
  • Experience in Startup Environment & Scaling technology for Post- Series B Companies are a plus.
  • Experience in running successful situations (or "war") rooms for outages preferred.
  • Expertise with QA, Security, GCP, Kubernetes, CI/CD, DevOps, and networking are a plus.
  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritize initiatives and allocate resources effectively to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
