TITLE: Customer Service Scale Clerk CSSC

FLSA Classification: Non - Exempt

Reports to: CSSC Supervisor

Position Objectives:

In this position, you will be the face of Madden Materials at our mining operations. You’ll check trucks in, weigh them on the way out, and confirm the number of loads and or material moved daily.

The Customer Service Scale Clerk is responsible for, but not limited to, providing customer service, receiving payments, data entry, record keeping, operating the weigh scales, screening, and recording incoming loads at the scale house, directing vehicles and other outside visitors entering and leaving the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide prompt and courteous service to customers.
  • Process proper charges to customers for each load -generate charge ticket on screen, printed or manually.
  • Handles cash and check transactions.
  • Inspect loads and query drivers as required.
  • Enter load information and customer/truck information into computer and operate computerized truck scale to determine weight of load.
  • Instruct drivers to the appropriate loading and unloading area based upon load contents; specifically, do not accept loads containing hazardous or unauthorized waste, or other materials not in compliance with regulations for dumping at the facility.
  • Record and secure cash/check receipts and maintain records with computer system of all incoming/outgoing loads that cross the scales.
  • Answer incoming calls or messages from office personnel and forward customer inquiries to the office.
  • Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
  • Cleanliness of workspace & general housekeeping duties for the facility to include kitchen, bathroom, and floors.
  • Perform any other tasks and duties as requested, directed, or assigned to support and improve the overall team operations.

  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operation, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
  • Ability to recognize unacceptable waste (such as construction trash, rebar, etc.)
  • Exceptional communication, both written and oral, and interpersonal abilities; organization and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and various technology programs to maintain records and reports for the facility.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Cash Handling Experience – at least 1 year
  • MS Office – at least 1 year
  • Bi-Lingual – English/Spanish

Physical Requirements:

  • Heavy lifting required, lift up to 35 lbs. +
  • Must be able to work in severe weather conditions, both heat and cold.
  • Must be able to stand / sit 8-15 hours per day.
  • Regularly required to sit, climb, stand, bend, squat, reach, and move as part of normal work activities.

Work Environment:

  • Location of position: Multiple Locations
  • Travel Required
  • Background checks and drug tests required.
  • Maintaining a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.
  • May be exposed to elements such as weather, noise, dust, odors, fumes, and oils.
  • May be subject to sitting/standing for long periods of time to perform job scope.
  • May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule.
