Job Description

Summary/Purpose

The Curriculum Specialist is responsible for working closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop, implement, and evaluate curricula, educational programs, and instruction standards at Summit Academy OIC (SAOIC). This role will coordinate with department leaders to maintain compliance requirements with the organization’s accrediting body, the Council on Occupational Education (COE). This position works with all programs at Summit: vocational programs, GED program, Summit Prep (tutoring), and customized training.

Accreditation Leadership:

  • Spearhead efforts to ensure full compliance with all accreditation requirements by orchestrating close collaboration with organizational leadership and department managers.
  • Proactively manage the completion of the COE annual report, conduct meticulous internal self-audits, and maintain a vigilant watch on accreditation standards to preemptively address any changes that could affect SAOIC or its programs.

Learning Management System Mastery:

  • Assume the role of primary authority on the school’s LMS, Instructure Canvas, playing a crucial role in the adaptation and optimization of this platform to meet the evolving needs of instructors and students.
  • Organize and lead comprehensive training sessions, workshops, and one-on-one coaching for faculty, aimed at maximizing the utility and effectiveness of the LMS in enhancing learning outcomes.

Instructional Excellence and Support:

  • Elevate the institution's teaching standards by conducting thorough and constructive classroom observations, offering personalized coaching to instructors on a range of pedagogical strategies, including lesson planning, syllabus creation, and engaging content delivery.
  • Initiate and oversee a peer review process among faculty to foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and shared best practices in teaching.
  • Actively participate in the design and revision of curriculum materials to ensure they are inclusive, engaging, and aligned with current industry standards and educational best practices.
  • Take a hands-on role in teaching and curriculum development for special projects, pilot programs, and new initiatives, demonstrating leadership and innovation in curriculum design.

Data-Driven Program Enhancement:

  • Utilize an analytical approach to regularly review student performance data, including attendance records, test results, and grade distributions, to identify trends, opportunities for curriculum improvement, and strategies for student engagement and success.
  • Develop and implement robust feedback mechanisms for students and faculty to inform curriculum development and instructional methods.

Faculty Development and Empowerment:

  • Design, plan, and execute a dynamic range of faculty development initiatives, including workshops, seminars, and training sessions tailored to enhance instructional skills, integrate innovative teaching technologies, and promote the latest pedagogical research findings.
  • Foster an environment that encourages faculty experimentation with new teaching methodologies, technologies, and blended learning models to keep pace with the best practices in adult education.

Collaborative Program Strategy:

  • Work closely with program directors and external partners to assess program effectiveness and identify opportunities for new program development that aligns with the strategic goals of SAOIC and meets the needs of the community.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in the research, planning, and implementation of educational programs, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and organizational objectives.

  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills: ability to build a strong rapport with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong written, oral and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Ability to lead and mentor instructors.
  • Strong understanding of adult teaching and learning methods.
  • Experience tracking, analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Knowledge of best practices for distance and blended learning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; CampusVue experience a plus.
  • Ability to work with people of various abilities and diverse backgrounds.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as: computers (with keyboard and mouse), phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

Presentations, classroom observations, computer work, some filing required. This would require the ability to lift files or books, open filing cabinets, use keyboarding skills, and bend or stand as necessary.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). It is not eligible for overtime pay. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position may require long hours and occasional evening or weekend work.

Travel

Limited local or national travel may be required to meet the expectations of the position or for optional professional development opportunities.

Required Education & Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in education, curriculum and instruction, or related field, from an accredited college or university.
  2. A minimum of 2 years successful teaching experience in an adult education setting.
