The Livestock Marketing Association (LMA), headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, is North America’s largest national trade association dedicated to serving its members and promoting the auction method of selling livestock. LMA members are livestock auction markets (sometimes called sale barns or stockyards), livestock dealers, and others involved in the marketing of livestock. Founded in 1947, LMA has more than 800 member businesses across the U.S. and Canada and remains invested in both the livestock and livestock marketing industries through member support, education programs, policy representation, and communication efforts.
Job Summary
The Membership Services Intern for the Livestock Marketing Association (LMA) will be an active part of the Membership Services team responsible for delivering effective and timely support to the livestock marketing industry members of LMA.
Essential Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality customer service to all members and clients of LMA and contribute to the success of services and staff across the departments of LMA.
- Coordinate the functions of lmaauctions.com and customer service to its users. Related tasks would include, but are not limited to:
- Provide login, password recovery, and troubleshooting assistance for system users.
- Develop and release a sale calendar and other promotional communications for lmaauctions.com
- Coordinate timely and accurate billing information for monthly broadcast fees and equipment.
- Coordinate with other team members to deliver a weekly association newsletter to LMA members.
- Assist in the delivery of stolen livestock alerts as an industry service to LMA members and across LMA’s public-facing media channels.
- Collaborate with other team members to support the organization of LMA’s Annual Convention and other meetings and events.
- Assist with member outreach and onboarding.
- Monitor and assist in social media content management for the Association.
Learning Opportunities
- Develop an understanding of website management.
- Practice writing, editing and research skills for subject matter relevant to your audience.
- Develop organization and planning experience for events ranging in size and budget.
- Experience advertising campaign development and application to promote the priorities of the Association.
- Experience job shadow opportunities in legal, insurance, finance, and government and industry affairs to develop a well-rounded understanding of the member facing and internal workings of a trade organization.
Requirements & Competencies
- Minimum completion of 2 years of undergraduate education.
- Preferred majors: All majors meeting relevant competencies are encouraged to apply. Compatible majors may include Marketing, Education, Business Administration, English, Communications, Hospitality Management, and Animal Science.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Must be reliable and able to adhere to specific project deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with social media platforms.
- Experience with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign) preferred.
- Experience with Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of/experience in the livestock industry is preferred but not required.
Internship Duration and Work Hours
Duration is negotiable to a qualified candidate with spring 2024, summer 2024 and winter 2024 opportunities considered. Typical work hours would be Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some flexibility in hours considered for qualified candidates or work/study internship opportunities.
Travel
In this internship, occasional travel opportunities may be offered to visit LMA member businesses or participate in LMA events.
