Are you looking for a career in healthcare but don't know where to start? We are currently recruiting for Hospitality Aides who desire to become a certified nursing assistant to join our team. This entry level position will provide valuable experience as you work to further your career by participating in the nursing assistant training program with our professional training partners at Olympic College.

Starting wage is $16.28/hr. to start and then $20.50 upon completion of NAC certification and up depending on related experience as determined by Supervisor and HR.

Wage increases as you earn your Washington State Nursing Assistant Registration (NAR) and Certification (NAC). Certified Nursing Assistants (NAC) begin at $20.50/hour.

Work at Martha & Mary in Poulsbo full time (30+ hours/week, for a month before the class starts. In July, when the class starts - college class time will be Tuesday-Friday for 8 weeks- you will only be attending class and clinicals). You will initially be trained on our campus as a Hospitality Aide. After you begin your nursing assistant training through the college program, and you learn nursing assistant skills, your opportunities to use those new skills on our campus are recognized as part of your clinical training. We work closely with Olympic College to support your success! This is a great opportunity! Be paid by Martha & Mary for your time with us and while attending your college class! The sponsored Nursing Assistant/Hospitality Aide position is primarily a day shift position. We will ensure your schedule accommodates the nursing assistant training class schedule provided by Olympic College. This paid position pays you for your college class time (Summer Program is 4 days/week) as well as your time working with us.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Job Specific

  • Follow resident assignment schedule as made out by charge nurse, or Unit Manager; this requires the ability to be mentally alert and communicate verbal and/or written information regarding resident's condition and care.
  • Walk with ambulatory residents or push in a wheel chair as required.
  • Ability to safely perform movements such as pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching and lifting up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations; manual dexterity required performing tasks in assisting residents with their personal needs.
  • Support meal periods. Transport patients and residents to and from the dining room. Take meal orders in dining room. Pass trays to appropriate patient or resident ensuring accuracy of meal and delivery within 10 minutes to ensure proper temperature of food that is consumed.
  • After proper training, feed residents in Dining Room only. Provide snacks as requested after ensuring snack is within plan of care by checking with the Charge Nurse.
  • Answer call lights in a timely manner; determine if request is non-clinical. Examples of non-clinical care would be, helping with TV, telephone, getting a personal item for a resident, giving them a blanket or pillow, giving them a food tray or snack. Be alert to resident's comforts and needs. Answer their requests promptly and report to NAC any clinical requests. Report back to patient or resident that their request and/or message has been passed on to a NAC. Use tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations.
  • Observe all residents and report anything unusual or abnormal to Charge Nurse.
  • Fill water pitchers and pass ice water to residents.
  • Ability to safely care for residents in a patient and respectful manner.
  • Follow safety guidelines.
  • Safely utilize equipment; report any equipment needing service or repair immediately.
  • Participate in emergency fire or disaster drills and other in-service training as scheduled. Must be able to safely ascend and descend stairwells and assist in an evacuation.
  • Follow Universal Safety Precautions in order to protect oneself, residents and other staff members.
  • Make beds and tidy rooms.
  • Escort residents to and from daily activities and/or in-house appointments such as to the Chapel, Beauty Shop, Restorative or other required locations.
  • Assist with actives going on in building.
  • Clerical functions.
  • Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance in accordance with facility absence policies. Perform special duties as assigned.
  • Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations.
  • Promotes positive public relations with patients, residents, family members and guests. Answer non-clinical questions. Respond to questions and/or concerns and communicate to appropriate individuals.
  • Help locate lost laundry and personal items.
  • Provide 1:1 interaction with residents requiring on-going assistance i.e. reading, games, walks, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
