Job Profile: Administrative Director of Biomedical Equipment & Facilities Services Management

Summary Under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Facility Operations is responsible for the operational excellence of the department through a primary focus on equipment availability, timely preventive maintenance and seamless integration with the hospital’s IT infrastructure and clinical applications.

General Description: Manages clinical engineering and biomedical service activities within the healthcare system, manages interdisciplinary projects, implements standard solutions, or creates unique solutions to system issues as they arise. Creates policy and manages risk. Organizes schedules per facility service needs. Participates in committees, organizes and hosts meetings, strategizes service activities, and forecasts clinical equipment needs.

Essential Responsibilities:

· Advises facility administration regarding clinical equipment status, needs, technology, compliance, and cost. Interfaces with departmental leadership and service line specialists. Evaluates biomedical equipment service program and modifies per compliance needs, efficiency, and cost controls.

· Mitigates facility risk exposure and manages clinical equipment compliance.

· Creates and/or implements standard work practices to maximize efficiency.

· Lead, instruct, and assist technicians on all levels of repairs/resolutions.

· Delegate projects and perform administrative duties. Proactively reach out to others on team (e.g., provide help, share best practices, mentor others).

· Create and maintain on-call list and paging functionality.

· Generate reports for facility supervisors, directors, and administration. Source tools and test equipment, arrange calibration certification, and assess training needs.

· Evaluate vendors and arrange service agreements; ensure vendor documentation meets compliance criteria.

· Enhance and maintain technical knowledge of current standards, codes, and procedures regarding safe and effective use of medical equipment through formal instruction.

· Direct activities of clinical engineers and BMETs Meet or exceed The Joint Commission, State Department of Health and Human Services, Occupational Health and Safety requirements, and all other applicable regulatory requirements (FDA, CAP, etc.).

· Aware of and comply with the Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position.

· Complete all planned Quality and Compliance training within the defined deadlines. Identify and report all customer quality or compliance concerns immediately to the Quality Organization.

· Ensure all work orders, vendor service reports, time and expense reports, PM activities, purchase orders, and other duties are documented in an accurate and timely manner.

· Ensure all test equipment is tracked and 100% calibrated on time.

· Proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems Minimum

Qualifications:

· Education: Bachelor’s degree in a technical or medical field. Experience: 5 years of management experience. Biomed experience preferred. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Proven track record of leadership in biomedical engineering in hospital setting. License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required.

· Certified Biomedical Electronics Technician (CBET) preferred.

· Valid Driver’s License required. Preferred Qualifications: Education.

· Master’s Degree in medical field Experience.

· 10+ Years of Experience in medical field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Experience interpreting schematic diagrams and perform effective repair and planned maintenance on basic biomedical or electronic equipment.

· Experience in a hospital setting.

· Ability to analyze metrics and reports Able to think creatively and implement solutions/solve problems, even when unfamiliar with the task at hand.

· Experience coaching, mentoring, and leading others. Strong knowledge of electronic digital circuitry and understanding of electronic and electromechanical devices.

· Change agent and process oriented.

· Operate with efficiency and sense of urgency.

· Willingness to learn and adapt to changing environments.

· Empower and inspire others. Ability to deliver results in a changing environment, ability to multitask, strategize, and prioritize.

· Developing and maintaining good customer relations at all levels (e.g., nurses, doctors, leadership).

· Experience interfacing with both internal and external team members as part of a solution-based service process.

· Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues in an easy-to-understand manner.

· Ability to work independently and as a team to implement solutions through problem solving.
