SUMMARY:

The Field Service Technician is responsible for providing preventive maintenance, repair service, and calibration on increasingly complex and challenging state-of-the-art ophthalmic diagnostic instruments, specialty equipment, surgical equipment, accessories of HSU Diagnostic Division products, and Reliance chairs and stands. These services are to be provided at customer locations at a 100% travel rate in a specified territory.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan, schedule, communicate and perform preventive maintenance, repairs and calibration on instruments, components and accessories in assigned territories independently.
  • Trouble shoot ophthalmic instruments and accessories according to company procedures.
  • Read and comprehend prints and schematics; repair and calibrate according to company procedures and specifications.
  • Solder; use AC-DC multi meter; use HS-specific diagnostic tools as prescribed.
  • Communicate directly with eye care specialists, ophthalmic offices, clinics, hospitals and government facilities.
  • Educate and instruct end users and facility staff on topics of maintenance and use of HS products.
  • Prepare, process, disburse and file all necessary preventive maintenance, repair and inventory documentation promptly and accurately.
  • Maintain spare part stock for travel activities independently.
  • Coordinate with customers, internal sales representatives, and various internal resources to ensure that all visits are scheduled, performed, and closed out appropriately so invoices can be generated.
  • Operate PC hardware and Microsoft based software.
  • Interact and communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Associate’s degree in precision mechanics, mechanical, electronics, or biomechanical engineering; at least 3 years mechanical, electromechanical/electronic instrument repair experience, or minimum of three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination and experience.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Dependability, with attention to detail and focus on accuracy of work.
  • Ability to plan and work independently.
  • Above average math and clerical skills.
  • Ability to travel multiple weeks at a time.
  • Above average oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to successfully interact and communicate in a professional environment.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office platforms including Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally, as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a Passport for overseas training.
  • Ability to complete vendor credentialing programs for entry into the hospital environment.

Special Requirements

Candidate will be required to successfully complete Haag Streit proprietary training on-site in the US (4 weeks), while traveling with another Service Engineer (4-8 weeks) and possibly at the manufacturing facility in Switzerland.


This is a remote/travel position covering the Midwest territory, Chicago and surrounding areas are ideal for coverage.
