Controller – Hospitality
Job Description
The Controller will provide the financial expertise to enable the successful completion of the Company’s business goals and objectives. This position integrates daily hands-on activities with long-term strategic leadership and planning. Supports the CFO and Managing Principals by providing multiple properties’ financial reporting and key business metrics for internal review and preparation for external parties. Work with the CFO to fully integrate cash management and cash forecasting into the accounting group on an ongoing basis.
Supervises
Directly manages the senior accountants, administrative team, and property-level accounting managers.
Key relationships
Chief Financial Officer, General Managers, Senior Accountants, property-level Accounting Managers, Regional Director of Operations, Corporate Director of Human Resources, and Asset Management teams.
Essential Job Duties
· Supports the properties and entity business strategies through established accounting principles.
· Manages, monitors, and ensures the accuracy of the work performed by accounting staff.
· Responsible for all accounting policies, processes, and standard operating procedures for the properties and for the effective training of hotel management on the accounting procedures at the properties.
· Oversees the administration of all federal, state, and local taxes and regulations.
· Oversees and produces all monthly P&L Statements and Balance Sheets for each entity.
· Analyzes any differences between actual costs versus budgets and forecasts to determine the reasons for any differences, to enable greater cost controls.
· Advises CFO, general managers, senior management, and other internal customers on current or anticipated financial issues.
· Understands the Company’s goals and can effectively communicate these goals to subordinates in a way that fosters positive acceptance and compliance.
· Implements and maintains a system of appropriate accounting and audit controls to manage business risks and enforces compliance with LTD Standard Operating Procedures.
· Ensures all internal, external, and regulatory audit processes are utilized and communicates and corrects any issues that may arise as a result of these audits.
· Attends senior management meetings to provide context and explanation for the current financial status of the Company.
· Proactively establishes long range plans to eliminate inefficiencies and improve profitability.
· Effectively manages change and communicates strategic changes to staff.
· Ensures compliance with statutory payroll and property tax reporting at the property-level.
· Other and all duties, projects and tasks as assigned by CFO.
Job Requirements
Educational and Experience Requirements
· Bachelors or Masters degree in accounting or related field. CPA preferred.
· Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an advanced position within the accounting field.
· Experience completing time critical projects responsibly.
· Experience with general ledger posting, month end closing, and reconciliations.
· Degreed accountants will be considered.
· Strong math and analytical skills.
· Experience in the Hospitality and/or Food and Beverage industries preferred.
Qualifications/Skills and Abilities Requirements
· Thorough understanding of general ledger accounting.
· Proficiency in all areas of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Work, PowerPoint.
· Experience with Oracle Accounting software is a plus.
· Must be able to manage multiple priorities and able to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
· Ability to work in a team environment as well as self-motivated in individual projects.
· Strong personal accountability and work ethics.
