The Director of Donation Acquisitions is responsible for all aspects of Goodwill Central Texas’ donation acquisition strategy including prospecting new partnerships, implementing partnerships, and forecasting future needs to support overall DGR growth strategy. This position will aggressively expand the Goodwill donor base and increase organization material donations.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop 5-year Donation Acquisition Strategic Plan in line with GCT real-estate and DGR growth plans. Strategic plan will include quarterly goals to measure success and adjust as needed for desired results.
  • Prospect, initiate, and develop long-term relationships with companies, organizations, schools, churches, neighborhood associations, sports teams, etc. to increase goods donations.
  • Implement and manage all donation acquisition programs and services including but not limited to residential and corporate pick-ups, estate services, donation drives, and long-term giving relationships.
  • Track, analyze, and report program results to inform strategic planning and new initiatives to drive an increase in goods donations, while ensuring current program development and growth. Track year-over-year donations to identify trends and opportunities for additional donations growth.
  • Develop and maintain a “donations dashboard” to provide visibility around donations metrics and forecast trends. Provide routine reporting to DGR leaders on metrics and future plans related to donated goods. Apply this information to decision-making around donations flow.
  • Develop and lead a purchased donated goods methodology to support Retail Store needs that supplements current donations stream and fills any gaps in goods by type or quantity.
  • Develop and lead strategy to prevent competitors from gaining market share within GCT territory. This includes identifying and analyzing current and future threats to GCT donations stream and proactively implementing measures to prevent loss of market share.
  • Collaborate with the Logistics & Donations Team to support donation events and expand ADC footprint.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Team to accomplish all donation acquisition marketing/advertising needs including community-facing events such as interviews or panels to support the mission of GCT.
  • Collaborate with DGR Leadership and Learning & Development to ensure first-class donation experience at Retail stores and other staffed locations, including focus on accurate donations counting, process audits, and employee training on donor engagement/donor experience.
  • Assist in the preparation of strategic plan goals, and corresponding budgets.
  • Develop and implement an educational program to accompany donation drives, educating the community on how Goodwill uses donations to fund our mission.
  • Attend community events, meetings, or conferences to promote organizational goals or solicit donations. Some travel including weekend and evening availability may be required.
  • Provide support as needed for the overall goals of DGR Operations.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to achieve streamlined logistical and retail merchandising operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervisory responsibilities over Donation Acquisition Specialist, Donation Acquisition Drivers, and assigned administrative team members. This position may have temporary supervisory responsibilities over other team members during donation events, drives, or other community events.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • At least 6 years management experience. Preferably in a community fundraising/development field.
  • Self-starter who is highly engaged, organized, goal focused and strategic in planning their daily, weekly, monthly, and annual priorities.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license, good driving record, liability insurance, vehicle in good working condition to travel on work related business.
  • Proficiency with MS applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other computer software (Internet, POS Systems, etc.).
  • Excellent customer service and employee relations skills.
  • Ability to work with staff at all levels.
  • Ability to adapt to change and assume added responsibilities.
  • Experience negotiating sales and commitments.
  • Two years’ experience managing a program with proven growth.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills; comfort with presenting and public speaking. Experience using CRMs and online scheduling platforms.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of working outside in various weather conditions to support events and donation collections.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.
  • The ability to cope with and tolerate moderate levels of stress is also a necessity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to operate a telephone and keyboard.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds on a regular basis with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles.
