About The Job

CLASSIFICATION PURPOSE

This exempt supervisory job classification is responsible for all landscape, design-build, and installation operations within the company, by managing the procurement and scheduled use of resources, including labor, equipment, and materials to ensure maximum use and completion of work within budget, safety guidelines and quality standards; performs other work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Full responsibility for multiple design-build and landscape jobs by managing labor, materials, time, and customer expectations;

· full responsibility for overseeing all aspects of bed and shrub maintenance (e.g., trimming and weed control procedures); Plans, develops, and leads all strategic initiatives associated with landscape projects; Designs short and long-range departmental goals and tactical objectives;

· drives accountability on all key performance indicators (e.g., revenue, gross margin, staffing, job retention);

· develops labor models, resources management, materials purchasing, and operational procedures;

· ensures each crew is properly staffed and has their instructions for the workday;

· conducts weekly equipment inventory;

· performs necessary maintenance and issues sheets;

· is accountable for all efforts associated with profit and loss within the Landscape and Detail Department;

· assigns and reviews work schedules;

· ensures all procedures comply with safety standards and company guidelines;

· cultivates partnerships with existing and prospective clients;

· attends meetings, makes presentations, and represents the company as a technical expert in the fields of installation, design-build, and construction;

· ensures compliance with all company-wide policies, programs, and processes;

· controls field costs;

· performs pre- and actual job site inspections;

· performs basic job cost and budgeting tasks;

· adheres to company reporting methods;

· ensures all job responsibilities are performed in accordance with company protocol, monitors yard arrival tasks (e.g., vehicles parking, unloading debris, storing tools);

· tracks efficiency standards;

· coordinates labor scheduling, material use, and equipment allocation effectively;

· oversees department safety meetings;

· completes administrative procedures (e.g., timecards, equipment inventory, punch lists);

· performs commercial sales, purchasing, and ordering of materials;

· treats others with respect, collaboration, and support in such a way that work relationships are improved and morale is increased;

· Ensures training programs are available to employees and that certifications are obtained and kept current;

· ensures all work is completed according to contract, quality standards, and budget terms;

· Supervises (e.g., hiring, training, coaching, performance management) multiple subordinates;

· Maintains equipment, vehicle, and tool inventories;

· Understands the relationship between job quality and customer service, satisfaction, and retention;

· oversees an optimal yard departure routine;

· ensures all job responsibilities are performed in accordance with company protocol, monitors yard arrival tasks (e.g., vehicles parking, unloading debris, storing tools);

· coordinates labor scheduling, timekeeping, material use, and equipment allocation effectively;

· Ensures compliance with all aspects of the company’s safety program;

· Reports non-landscape issues to the Chief Operations Officer;

· Performs winter Service (e.g., snow clearing, snow plowing, shoveling, salting) as needed;

· works with company software, Microsoft Office suite, and standard office equipment; and

· Provides excellent service (e.g., accurate, complete, and timely) to clients, work-site partners, and Company staff in a courteous and efficient manner.

· Interpersonal Skills: Treats others with respect, collaboration, and support in such a way that work relationships are improved and morale is increased; is approachable; has effective communication skills.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

An example of the preferred education, training, and/or experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and competencies for this position includes at least five (5) years of professional landscape practices, design-build procedures, and related landscape experience similar to that described above.

Frequent: sitting, time spent on the telephone, repetitive use of hands to operate computers, printers, and office equipment, standing, bending and stooping, twisting of waist side-to-side, turning and flexion of the neck, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds; walking long distances, on job sites on uneven ground; normal manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus and vision to normal range.

SPECIAL NOTES, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Pre-employment: Incumbents must sign the Confidentiality, Non-disclosure, and Non-solicitation Agreement prior to their first day on the job.

License: A valid Class E driver’s license, which must be maintained throughout employment in this job classification, is required at the time of appointment.

Language: Though not required, basic bilingual English and Spanish skills are preferred for this job classification.

Certifications: No certifications are required of this job classification.

Working Conditions: Work is conducted predominantly outdoors, exposed to varying temperatures, weather conditions, and noise levels; exposure to dust, pesticides, herbicides, grease, oils, dust, fumes, and electrical currents. Some work is conducted in an office environment with associated noise, space, and computer screen exposure.

Background Investigation: Incumbents must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Prior to appointment, candidates may be subject to a background investigation and/or drug test.

Introductory Period: Incumbents appointed to this job classification serve an introductory period of three months.
