Works-in-Progress Associates (WPA) is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to become an integral part of our team! The candidate will work with the School Construction Authority (SCA) on the Job Order Contract (JOC). Hours are usually (3:30PM, 4PM) to (11:30PM, 12 AM) – But on call for Night in case of Emergency to accommodate the school hours.
Minimum Requirements:
- Shall have a baccalaureate degree in engineering/architecture and/or construction related field from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of full time progressively responsible work as a technical specialist in the construction and design related fields: two (2) years must involve the management of all phases of construction work on multiple projects; or a comparable combination of education or experience.
- Managed or monitored at least two (2) projects of substantial value.
- Must have the ability to understand and interpret contract documents such as specifications, drawings, and shop drawings.
- Experience in new and renovation type construction.
- OSHA 30 certification is required.
- A driver's license valid in New York State.
- Demonstrated proficiency with all applicable software packages including but not limited to MS Windows; MS Office (including Project, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), and Adobe Acrobat.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Interpret Drawings and make sure work is in conformance.
- Complete Night Shift Reports.
- Relate any RFI or other project related correspondences to the Project Manager.
- Ensure Contractors are following all Safety Guidelines.
- Coordinate with the contractor and design consultants with the SCA.
- Write scopes of work and issue RFPs.
- Oversee construction.
- Manage project scheduling and tracking dates.
- Track manpower and equipment to obtain credits from the contractor for the SCA.
- Ensure permits are obtained correctly.
- Ensure safe excavation processes are followed, and 811 is notified in a timely manner.
- Ensure the school is satisfied with the completion of the work, and that all consultants received the information they sought.

Because we are a woman-owned firm we are on contracts with larger Construction Management firms such as LiRo, Hill International, Jacobs, Tectonic, Gilbane, etc. and we help them to meet their WBE goals. We provide Project Managers, Inspectors, Estimators, Office Engineers and so on. Currently we are on about 10-15 different contracts.
WPA is a woman-owned Owner's Representative firm and we manage construction projects for mostly nonprofits including schools, hospitals, libraries, etc. in the New York City area. We have been in business for over 30 years and have completed well over 400 projects. We currently have somewhere between 40-50 employees. Because we are a woman-owned firm we are on contracts with larger Construction Management firms such as LiRo, Hill International, Jacobs, Tectonic, Gilbane, etc. and we help them to meet their WBE goals. We provide Project Managers, Inspectors, Estimators, Office Engineers and so on. Currently we are on about 10-15 different contracts.
