Alliant Management Services is looking for a VP of Clinical Services to join our team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum educational requirement – BSN with a Master’s or higher in Nursing or Healthcare related field.
• Demonstrate progressive management experience with previous experience as a Chief Nursing Officer for at least 3 years.
• Knowledgeable about CMS Conditions of Participation and Joint Commission standards.
• Demonstrate proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and computer-based slide presentations development.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

This position is indirectly accountable for the nursing and clinical departments of the managed facilities. The position’s basic function is to ensure that high quality nursing/clinical care is provided within the managed facilities in an effective and efficient manner. This is accomplished through review of data submitted to Alliant Management Services, on-site consultative visits, development and maintenance of on-going relationships with chief executive officers, chief nursing officers as well as medical staffs and boards as indicated.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

This position reports to the President. The vice president of clinical services also maintains on-going communications with regional administrators, chief executive officers, and chief nursing officers regarding nursing and other clinical or operational issues as appropriate.
The primary responsibilities of this position include: Interviewing, orienting and evaluating chief nursing officers (CNO) of affiliated facilities as requested; providing guidance via on-site visits as well as telephone consultations to all CNOs and other hospital managers regarding problems and concerns, new programs/services; providing consultation to on-site chief executive officers; facilitating provision of in services and continuing educational endeavors; budgeting of nursing/clinical department expenses; serving as a liaison with Alliant; providing on-site evaluation and consultation to verify Joint Commission standards and federal/state regulations compliance; assisting in the establishment of nursing/other clinical departmental objectives; providing productivity analysis and reporting; and conducting comprehensive surveys of nursing and related departments of potential clients.
The major challenge which the incumbent faces is the development of managerial skills by the individual CNOs. These skills include communication and problem-solving, planning and conducting meetings, writing standards of performance, budget preparation, management principles, writing philosophies and goals and objectives, and leadership effectiveness. In addition, the incumbent must provide assistance in developing organizational staffing plans and schedules, implementing and improving systems, preparing statistical reports, and must be able to perceive needs of the individual hospitals. On occasion, the incumbent will provide assistance with Joint Commission accreditation and federal/state regulatory surveys. The incumbent must develop a rapport with members (other than the directors) of nursing administration and provide assistance as needed. In conjunction with these outreach activities, travel is required as needed.
The incumbent will employ and coordinate Alliant resources as needed. The planning, development and implementation of continuing education programs for hospital leaders.
The incumbent has several reporting mechanisms. First, recommendations will be made to the individual board of directors, chief executive officers, chief nursing officers, and other managers as appropriate. Administrative service/visit reports describing projects, plus service/visits performed will be filed with the Regional Administrators and the Chief Executive Officer for managed hospitals. Finally, as indicated a formal outline with narrative description of survey findings will be published for each pre-contract survey.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Assess strengths, deficiencies and capabilities of the nursing/clinical management staff and promote development of management skills.
2. Assist with the coordination of activities and services related to nursing administration between the managed hospitals and Alliant.
3. Participate in pre-contract surveys and subsequent board presentations for purpose of evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of nursing and other clinical departments and advising on the feasibility of proposal.
4. Promote quality and efficiency of operations within each contract managed facility.
5. Promote effective public relations and communication through contact with physicians, hospital board members, hospital staff and the community as indicated by individual facilities.
6. Orient new chief nursing officers to their management role.
7. Evaluate impact of proposed changes in service and assist in achieving accreditation and regulatory compliance.
8. Actively interface with managed facility CNOs to promote a flow of ideas and to further enhance the continuing education/staff development in the contract managed hospitals.
9. Organize and direct a CNO Networking to be comprised of the CNOs which either through meetings, list-servers (email), company newsletter, or joint meetings with CEOs/CFOs to discuss trends in healthcare, nursing, nursing management techniques, continuing education and to attain goals that can best be met collectively.
10. Provide assistance, as required, in preparation and review of annual nursing departmental budgets.
