Banquet Bartender

Responsibilities

  • Setup
    • The banquet bartender is responsible for setting up the beverage service area, which may include positioning a portable bar. The bartender makes sure the bar is stocked with appropriate glassware or disposable glassware, cocktail stirring rods, napkins and drink garnishes such as cherries, olives, cocktail onions and lemon and lime wedges. The bartender also stocks the bar with soft drinks, liquor, wine, beer and other beverages.
  • Service
    • The bartender is responsible for filling drink orders for guests, answering questions about drink ingredients and making suggestions for different types of beverages and cocktails. The bartender might coordinate with banquet servers or caterers in providing champagne to toast the bride and groom or supply wines at a dinner reception. The bartender is responsible for ensuring that alcoholic beverages are not dispensed to people under the age of 21. The banquet bartender may be required to monitor the alcohol intake of guests in accordance with the management company or catering company’s service and insurance policies. If the event is a cash bar, the bartender is responsible for taking payment for drinks. The bartender is also responsible for balancing cash and credit card receipts. The bartender is also responsible for keeping the bars clean and attractive to promote the high nature of the event or wedding and so that the bride and groom are kept happy at all times.
  • Tear Down
    • After the wedding reception/event, the bartender is responsible for tearing down the bar, washing and storing glasses and disposing of trash and recyclables, including plastic cups, bottles and cans. Wiping down the bar and making sure the floors are swept and mopped and ready for the next event. The bartender disposes leftover garnishes and thoroughly cleans and disinfects the bar equipment.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Prior wedding/banquet bartending: 1 year preferred
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • 1 year of customer service preferred
  • Requires walking/ standing for an entire shift
  • Requires ability to perform light physical labor: lifting, reaching, bending, stretching, and handling
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. (example: outdoor bar coolers, heavy tables)
  • Must complete RASP Training
  • Required to wear an Islander Logo Polo shirt (provided by the hotel) along with knee length shorts and closed toe non-slip shoes while working
