Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a statistical medical coder specific to a Data Modeling project. The Medical Coder is responsible for review and validation of assignment of accurate ICD-10 diagnoses codes derived from medical record documentation (paper or electronic).
Tasks
•Follow and comply with industry standard medical coding guidelines, policies, and procedures.
•Evaluate spreadsheets, lines of text, and other documentation to verify and/or assign accurate ICD-10 code assignments.
•Follow up and clarify any inconsistent information that is not clear.
•Responsible for maintaining an accuracy rate of 96% or greater.
•Interacts with peers to ensure documentation is clear and supports coding assignments.
•Participate in Quality Assurance programs and weekly staff meetings.
•Serve as a 'buddy' to assist with training and educating new team members and play a significant role in coding compliance activities.
•Must maintain confidentiality of PII at all times.
•(outpatient), documentation requirements, familiarity with medications and reimbursement guidelines; and encoder experience.
Job Types: Full-time and part-time (minimum 20 hours/week) permanent

Experience:
•AHIMA and/or AAPC active certification (Required). Must be current on CEU requirements.
•Two (2) years of medical coding experience in an inpatient and/or outpatient with use of an encoder.
•Must be detailed oriented.
•Requires excellent computer/communication skills i.e. Microsoft Office 365.
