Job Title: Assistant Director
Supervisors Title: Site Director
Department: Administration

Job Summary

The Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing all operations of the Center, including, but not limited to, student recruitment and registration, staff hiring and disciplining, scheduling and evaluation, program implementation and fulfillment and is the primary interface with parents under the guidance of the Site Director

Key Responsibilities Management and Supervision:
Liaison between Staff and Site Director.
Manages and supports the Staff to achieve the goals and objectives of The Learning Gate.
Ensures the daily day-to-day operations and needs of the Center are met, including staffing, maintaining ratios, inventory monitoring, curriculum implementation.
Implements all personnel policies and procedures, ensures standards of hiring, retention of employees and disciplinary action, escalating to the Site Director when appropriate.
Supervises professional development of the Teaching Staff. Recommends staff that need additional training for the Site Director.
Assists the Site Director in Scheduling and conducting regular staff meetings.
Meets weekly with Site Director to collaborate and address upcoming events, concerns, managerial issues, staffing, curriculum, and set goals for the year.
Implements curriculum in conjunction with Site Director with input from Group and Lead Teachers.
Reviews and approves program lesson plans submitted by Lead Teachers.
Assist Teachers through daily schedule; gather resource supply needs, child discipline and behavior issues, regularly assess and monitor classrooms. Schedule field trips and unique events with the Site Director. Coordinates with Group and Lead Teachers to ensure all staff programs and Center conforms to all State licensing requirements, including, but not limited to, staffing, maintaining files for staff and children, safety, and sanitation.
Assists with annual evaluations of the Staff.
Ensures physical safety and maintenance (where applicable) of the facilities, equipment, and structures.
Responsible for the cleanliness and safety of buildings and grounds (where appropriate).

Relationship with Parents and Children:
Oversees that Lead Teachers have ensured childrens files have all required current information that include emergency contact, allergy, and pick up forms.
Readily available to parents to answer questions and provide appropriate counsel.
Informs prospective parents of the program and services offered and provides tours in the absence of Site Director.
Oversees content, preparation, and distribution of all communication with parents and staff, including, but not limited to, monthly newsletter, delayed openings, early closings, and other pertinent notices.
Works with Group and Lead Teachers to evaluate children for proper placement in classrooms, including evaluations to move children up based upon recommendation from the Lead Teachers.
Ensures posts reminder signs and notices of illnesses, closures and similar essential information is effectively communicated to all affected parties (staff, parents, etc.).

Financial Responsibilities:
Achieves financial goals set to meet all program and administrative expenses.

Relations with Site Director:
Meets periodically with the Director to provide updates or review issues or recommendations.
Provides periodic reports as requested by the Director.
In the absence of the Site Director, has sole responsibility of the Center and seeks assistance from the Executive Board as needed.

Relationship with External Organizations:
Works with the Educational Services Commission to coordinate services.
Refers children to services as needed.
Performs other assigned duties as need arises.

Qualifications Education/Experience:
Bachelors degree in early childhood education, child development or educational development required; and
Minimum four years experience in a licensed non-profit daycare or child development center; and
Four years supervisory experience.

Licensing and/or Certifications:
First Aid/CPR/AED certification

Knowledge:
Knowledge and ability to work with a variety of personalities and individuals, including children, parents teachers, staff, volunteers.
Demonstrated knowledge of recruiting process and procedures and non-traditional recruiting sources.
Demonstrated understanding of state licensing standards.
Experience and familiarity with Grow NJ standards and ratings.
Trained in Creative Curriculum.

Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrates trust and respect, while maintaining and nurturing the staff at The Learning Gate.
Demonstrates a genuine compassion and respect for children and parents. Have sensitivity to work in a multicultural environment.
Ability to make decisions in the best interest of the children and the programs.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Excellent conflict resolution skills to facilitate positive relationships with parents, staff, and children.
Proven organizational skills and ability to multitask and prioritize.
Strong people skills, professional demeanor.

Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to use a computer, lift a minimum of 40 pounds and work outdoors as needed.
