Program Director

The Manchester Sailing Association (MSA), based in Manchester by the Sea, MA, is currently seeking a qualified Program Director for its 2024 Summer Sailing Program. Founded in 1971, MSA is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching sailing and racing to enthusiasts of all skill levels. Our structured curriculum emphasizes safety, enjoyment, and sportsmanship.

Located at the picturesque Tuck's Point and using the facilities of the Manchester Yacht Club, MSA provides sailing instruction to both children and adults from Manchester and neighboring communities. Our programs cover a spectrum from recreational sailing to competitive racing, catering to learners from beginners to advanced racers. The MSA fleet includes a variety of boats such as Prams, Optimist Dinghies, 420s, Lasers, and Ideal 18s, all utilized for instructional purposes and available for open sailing on Saturdays.

 

The Program Director will partner with the Sailing Director to manage a vibrant program accommodating up to 45 sailors per session, supported by a dedicated team of approximately 8 instructors. While the Sailing Director focuses on the operational aspects of the sailing instruction and direct supervision of instructors, the Program Director will handle the overall administration and safety oversight of the program. This position is ideal for individuals with previous experience in roles such as summer camp counselor, teacher, or similar capacities, who are looking to lead and inspire in a dynamic marine environment.

 

Job Summary

 

  • Full time position for summer weeks end of June through August 17th.

  • Lifeguard Certification or the willingness to obtain is a must.

  • Help MSA chart a course to ensure the success of community sailing for Manchester and surrounding communities.

  • Understands MSA’s sailing program and ensures a safe and fun learning environment for all sailors on and off the water.

  • Participates in and contributes to monthly MSA board meetings and planning sessions.

  • Actively seeks ways to improve the program.

  • Manages within established P&L.

 

Experienced Required

  • Lifeguard Certification

  • Experience working with children as a Teacher, Camp Counselor or in a Swimming environment.

  • Must be at least 21
