FMI specializes in product design, engineering, development and manufacturing of tubular fabrication, welded tubular assemblies and fabricated exhaust manifolds.

SUMMARY OF ROLE

The Industrial Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for development and implementation of optimized process improvements to both existing and future manufacturing systems reducing cost, improving sustainability, and promoting best practice standards within the organization. will oversee all manual (TIG & MIG) and robot (Motoman, ABB & Fanuc) welding to insure proper technique and weld integrity for standard metals (stainless steel, mild steel & aluminum).


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • General knowledge of tube forming operations including: bending, trimming, end forming, hydro forming, brazing, MIG/TIG/Laser welding, leak rate and dimensional testing.
  • Conduct line balancing evaluation and improvement, coordinate and lead kaizen activities addressing flow constraints, takt time improvements, scrap reduction, and cell layout optimization.
  • Conduct time studies and work measurement analysis to establish standard work methods.
  • Develop and write specifications/performance requirements, work instructions, reports, and proposals.
  • Resolve production issues utilizing root cause analysis techniques, time studies, and work flow evaluation.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in design, implementation, and training of process improvements.
  • Support full project implementation with understanding of APQP practices, customer deliverables, timing, and providing related documents.
  • Assist in production capacity activities including: operator training, burst builds, and Run at Rates.
  • Collaborate with Quality Department as needed utilizing core tools: PPAP, PFMEA, MSA, and SPC.
  • Participate in addressing customer concerns/corrective actions: 8D, 5-Why, etc.
  • Generate cell layouts utilizing CAD software with attention to Safety, Ergonomics, and 5S practices.
  • Research and purchase new manufacturing technology.
  • Adhere to all company policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Skills & Strengths
  • Problem solving capability utilizing an analytical approach to identify and resolve part process issues delivering creative, reasonable, workable solutions.
  • Able to lead and execute an action plan through prioritization of tasks, adapting to changing product and process conditions, and effective use of time.
  • Demonstrated strong hands-on knowledge of mechanical and assembly processes.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member, manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills; an effective listener/speaker who can convey technical information to peers, superiors, and management.
  • Proficient computer skills, knowledge of windows-based programs, database management, and word processing.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for layout and workstation design.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor Degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience in automotive welding and assembly.
  • Lean certification strongly desired, six-sigma certification a plus.
  • Leadership and training experience a plus.
