COMMUNITY PREVOCATIONAL SPECIALIST

Community Mainstreaming is a non-profit human service agency committed to providing services to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities lead meaningful productive lives within their community.

We are seeking a Community Prevocational Specialist to join our team! The Community Prevocational Specialist will provide the oversight and support necessary to enable work-related skill training to prepare people for employment or meaningful activities.

Location: Nassau County, NY

Position: Full time
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
Hourly Rate: $19.00

Responsibilities:

• fosters and engages individuals through a person-centered approach
• empowers independence through proactive training and practical experiences
• schedules individualized community-based volunteer and job skill experiences
• ensures the group’s weekly activities are adhered to, and that individuals exhibit appropriate social behavior during participation in the community
• incorporates life, job, and travel skills during group and volunteer activities, while facilitating community integration
• facilitates prevocational curriculum/classes to allow for opportunities to develop general, and non-job task specific skills (e.g. time management, following directions, stress management, communicating effectively, the ability to attend to tasks)

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED; Associate degree preferred in Human services, Psychology, or Sociology
• ID/DD experience preferred
• must have a valid New York State Driver's License
• must have own transportation with proof of insurance and registration
• must be Computer Proficient
• smartphone required
