Job Description

The Role...

Based in Manhattan and reporting to the Corporate Controller, Americas, the Assistant Corporate Controller will be a member of the Americas financial leadership team and will manage day-to-day accounting operations at Soho House. This includes maintaining fiscal records, developing and maintaining internal controls and procedures, financial processes /infrastructure, preparing financial reports in compliance with the company's reporting requirements and operating procedures.

Main Duties...

  • Provide effective direction and oversight for an accounting team of ~8 employees (currently located in the Manhattan support office). Develop and train the accounting team, focusing on a high standard for accuracy, integrity and deadline adherence.
  • Oversee monthly close activities, including supervision of Accounting Manager and junior team members.
  • Oversee completion and review of monthly consolidated results, including reporting packages supporting commercial review process, and quarterly / annual reporting requirements.
  • Books and records are currently prepared in accordance with UK GAAP for group reporting purposes, however Assistant Corporate Controller will also oversee US GAAP reconciliation and preparation of non-statutory financial statements.
  • Work collaboratively with accounts payable, treasury, payroll, tax and FP&A on month-end close requirements. Communicate deadlines & expectations clearly.
  • Working collaboratively with the Group Finance/Reporting team and complying with all group reporting requirements.
  • Provide accounting guidance to finance and business leadership. Research accounting treatment and prepare technical memos as needed or lead preparation as needed.
  • Coordinate and oversee annual audit activities with internal and external auditors. Ensure timely delivery of all audit requirements (group audits and non-statutory audits) and see audits through to completion. Assist with other non-financial audits as needed.
  • Manage and mentor a best-in-class accounting team. Strong focus on flawless execution while emphasizing leadership development and building succession depth.
  • Partner with Corporate Controller on building and maintaining internal controls over accounting & financial reporting, and remediation of any deficiencies. Work effectively with cross functional partners to design and implement effective controls.
  • Partner with the Corporate Controller regarding the continued evolution of the accounting function capabilities (E.g., acquisition accounting/integration, accounting/reporting requirements of new business models/partnerships, shared services, process improvements, new technology and automation).
  • Any other duties assigned by their manager.

Requirements...

  • Experience- CPA required; must possess advanced accounting management capabilities gained through 10+ years of hands-on experience with significant public accounting tenure. The ideal candidate would have started a career in a Big 4 public accounting firm and moved into an industry role, including at least 4+ years of people management. The successful candidate will have unquestionable integrity and the highest ethical standards.
  • Industry- The ideal candidate would have experience in the hospitality, retail and/or CPG industries. In addition, experience working in a public company environment, multi-location or multi-business unit experience, with ability to manage reporting on all entities in the Americas.
  • Technical Skills- Strong technical and academic background in accounting, finance or related field is required. Comprehensive understanding of US GAAP reporting and other requirements of regulations and statutes such as Sarbanes-Oxley. In addition, notable experience with SOX audits and control remediation.
  • Systems- Advanced knowledge of ERP functionality, best-in-class business processes across all cycles and prior experience with implementation of new ERP and related systems.
  • Software Skills- Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), including advanced excel modeling/query skills a must.
  • Team- Strong change management skills, with ability to lead the team through multiple steps of process improvement and new ways of working, specifically moving from a significant level of manual processes and reporting to automation. Ability to thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment and possess the skills to rapidly execute change.
  • Candidate must be detail oriented, have a high level of intellectual curiosity and be an effective problem solver. This includes exemplary time management skills and ability to develop and manage execution of daily team activities coupled with reporting requirements, and project planning.
  • High energy business partner with the ability to work collaboratively across the finance function and cross functionally (IT, operations, membership etc.).
  • Strong team building skills with the ability to motivate and develop others, resolve conflict, and lead a diverse team in various disciplines.

In accordance with New York law, the salary range for this role if filled within New York is listed below. The range for the position in other geographies may vary based on market differences. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
