This is a full time onsite role at the Heaven Hill Bourbon Experience in Bardstown, KY. Schedule is first shift with a requirement to work every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

What the Role Is

The Lead Bourbon Educator will be responsible for directly supervising and coordinating the work activities of Bourbon Heritage Center employees and will be responsible for implementing and managing daily activities, including tours, to ensure organizational goals and objectives are met. This position will also assist with daily operation duties such as outbound reservations, counterpoint ticket sales, deposits and cash handling. Additionally, when required, this individual will also assume the duties and responsibilities of the Bourbon Host including, but not limited to, escorting individuals or groups on sightseeing tours or through places of interest, hosting our guided walking tours and tastings while providing information about our company, products, heritage and industry.

How You Will Spend Your Time?

  • Manage opening and closing of the Bourbon Heritage Center and Visitor Warehouses including proper shutdown of all equipment and securing door locks
  • Open daily registers and count safe
  • Directly supervise, plan and coordinate the work activities of Bourbon Heritage Center Bourbon Hosts
  • Daily cash handling and deposits for ticketing and retail
  • Basic Outbound and Counterpoint duties as needed, including but not limited to training of team.
  • Effectively cross-train across multiple functions, including but not limited to, Lead Bourbon Host – Tours and Retail
  • Divulge information that keeps the guests focused on the topic of interest while highlighting the visual artifacts and other offerings.
  • Describe tour points of interest to group members, and respond to questions
  • Act as an educator by providing unique and important facts to inform the visitor’s curiosity.
  • Monitor visitors’ activities to ensure compliance with establishment or tour regulations and safety practices.
  • Provide directions and other pertinent information to visitors
  • Greet and register visitors, and issue any required identification badges or safety devices
  • Manage the greeter station, stamp passports, and answer guest inquiries in person and on the phone
  • Use cash registers and assist guests with their purchases from retail gift shop
  • Maintain cleanliness of bourbon sampling station
  • Clean and stock the gift shop as required

Who You Are…

  • Associate degree in Hospitality, Tourism, Business or related field. May substitute for equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory, retail, and administrative experience
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of historical events and their causes, indicators, and effects on heritage and culture
  • Excellent oral communication skills with the ability to talk to others to convey information effectively
  • Service Orientation – actively looking for ways to help people
  • Knowledge of technology including use of barcode scanners, computerized cash registers, credit card readers, and point of sale software
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work in a team and be a self-starter

Valued but not Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality, Tourism, Business or related field
  • Previous experience in distilled spirits industry
  • Familiarity with bourbon knowledge and language

Physical Demands:
While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects and use computer; reach with hands and arms. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
