Systems Engineer - Power Generation

TDI Technologies, Inc. (TDI) is seeking candidates for a Systems Engineer position supporting Model Based Systems Engineering to assist with the models for electrical power generation and distribution. This position will work with acquisition program managers, R&D specialists, and other engineers in supporting a new ship class acquisitions program at NSWCPD. This position will develop prototype digital models of ship systems, address design tradeoffs and integration challenges, and support validation and verification of requirements. This position will require experience in Model Based Systems Engineering methods and understanding of software such as Cameo System Modeler.
Principal Duties/Responsibilities:
- Create power electronics models in Matlab/Simulink
- Integrate and execute models with Hardware in the Loop (HIL)
- Perform design analysis and optimization
- Create structural and interface models
- Design a physical model of machinery systems for use in creation of Land Based Test and Engineering Sites
- Develop model data tools to capture model metadata, model test case data, and model test results in a standardized MBSE construct
- Adapt model data tools to capture physical testing metadata, physical test case data, and physical test results
- Track requirements and project deliverables, coordinate schedules, and support acquisition program objectives
Education and Experience Requirements:
1.Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university
2.Master’s degree in engineering is preferred but not required
3.2 or more years of experience in engineering & design
4.Basic knowledge of Model Based Systems Engineering
5.Knowledge or experience with electrical power generation and distribution
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Successful applicants must either have an active government security clearance or the ability to receive approval upon position acceptance.
- Must have a valid US passport or the ability to obtain one upon position acceptance.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Essential Skills:
1.Understanding of modeling techniques for electrical and mechanical systems
2.Familiarity modeling software or model-based engineering concepts
3.Familiarity with MATLAB and Simulink
4.Results-oriented and motivated to provide solutions with measurable benefit to our customers
5.Ability to communicate complex analysis with clarity and precision
6.Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
7.Strong written and verbal communication skills
8.Shipboard or industrial experience with machinery system installation, operational testing, troubleshooting, and repair is preferred
9.Knowledge of Agile Project Management
10.Experience with the system engineering life cycle, including requirements, design, development, integration, testing, and deployment
Desired Skills / Certifications:
1.Advanced degree or any type of certificate in System Engineering/Modeling is a plus but not required.
2.US Navy HM&E experience US Navy HM&E experience or industry experience in power generation, power distribution, control systems, ventilation systems, damage control, firefighting, auxiliary machinery, propulsion systems, navigational, steering, fluid storage & transfer systems such as for lube/fuel/oil/water, and combat system is a plus
Travel: There may be requirements for other travel, estimated to be 10-15%.
