The City of Clayton is seeking applicants for our Associate Network Engineer position. This position is responsible for the administration and maintenance of the City's IT infrastructure including LAN, wireless, storage, Active Directory, and data center management. This position is also responsible for server installation in a virtual and physical environment, managing the operating systems, the security and integrity of data, and project management in these areas.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to,

  1. Maintain and support all local area network connections, servers, and associated software. Must be able to monitor the network and servers and correlate events in the logs.
  2. Manage, monitor, and optimize Windows Server operating systems, VMware virtual servers and related components to achieve high availability and performance of the various business applications supported. This includes designing, installing, configuring, securing, administering, and fine-tuning those components across the organization timely and efficiently.
  3. Ensure the secure operation of the web servers, mail servers, file servers, and application/database servers, desktop systems and network connections, including checking server and application logs, scrutinizing Internet and network traffic, intrusion prevention and detection systems, security patches/updates and troubleshooting. Assigned work will involve analyzing and resolving security and vulnerability issues from internal and external sources timely and accurately, conducting user activity audits where required, and verifying HIPAA, PCI, and CJIS compliance.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate degree in the field of Information Technology with a minimum of three (3) years' work experience in supporting and administering a Microsoft enterprise-level networking and server environment (or equivalent). Must have work experience in project management. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Two years of experience with Microsoft Windows Server responsibilities. Experience in a VMware vSphere virtual server environment desired.

Demonstrated proficiency of basic networking principles such as TCPIP, OSI Layers and other common networking principles.

Networking, Server, and/or Security certifications preferred.

Must possess valid driver's license. Must be able to drive personal vehicle, on occasion when City vehicle not available, between multiple work locations (mileage reimbursement available) to complete job tasks.

Candidates must pass a background and fingerprint check as required by CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Systems).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is medium work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time at a work station or desk, but will also work in awkward or confining workspaces where the environment may be dusty.

Physical activities include bending/stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing/pulling, repetitive foot and hand movement. Also includes the necessity to communicate by talking, hearing/listening.

Works if an office setting, in generally comfortable conditions.
