Responsibilities
- Represent the organization’s mission and values through all aspects of operational oversight and team/guest interactions.
- Work collaboratively with other departments within HI such as finance, human resources, IT, maintenance, sales, and marketing.
- Foster a positive, inclusive work environment and open-door policy for all employees.
- Provide strong leadership to hostel team members through clear communication of hostel and organizational goals and initiatives.
- Oversee the seasonal recruitment and hiring process; ensure adherence to systems in place for new hire paperwork, payroll, time and attendance, onboarding, and training.
- Review employee performance and provide timely feedback and coaching.
- Proactively address employee issues or concerns in conjunction with human resources and following HI USA policies.
- Assist management in the implementation and monitoring of financial/operational plans for the hostel, supporting the overall objectives and goals of the organization.
- Develop, monitor, and control the overall hostel budget ensuring positive fiscal results.
- Prepare, review, and reconcile daily postings, accruals, various general ledger accounts, and bank statements ensuring accurate financial information is available.
- Prepare financial statements, periodic forecasts, and annual budgets to ensure accurate and timely, information. Complete credit card reports, petty cash/checking, and PMS reconciliation.
- Measure the effectiveness of yield management efforts to maximize the number of market segments reached, and to diversify sources of revenues.
- Review room inventory with sales and assist in selling strategies to maximize room revenue.
- Oversee the guest feedback and reservation functions, monitor online reviews, and comment/respond as appropriate.
- Walk the property, attend events and be a visible leader to guests, employees, vendors, and visitors: solicit feedback, inspect the physical plant and operation, and act appropriately on findings.
- Oversee security function ensuring a safe and secure environment for guests and employees.
- Monitor and ensure adherence to all qualify standards: appearance, maintenance, and cleanliness.
- In close consultation with maintenance chief, ensure preventative maintenance programs are recorded and in place to protect the physical property; continually develop the hostel safety program.
Skills/Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years progressive management experience in hospitality/lodging. General Manager experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree and/or coursework in management, administration, property management, and/or hospitality management preferred.
- Strong understanding of operations and administration including quality standards, employee relations, budgeting and forecasting, P&L, and safety.
- Property management experience.
- Previous supervisory experience required.
- Strong leadership skills
- Effective at listening to understand.
- Conflict resolution skills and ability to act effectively in a crisis.
- Ability to multi-task, manage time, and respond quickly to changing demands.
- Strong organizational skills with good attention to detail.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (excel, word, outlook) and working knowledge of PMS systems.
- Experiential travel/hostel travel experience preferred.
Compensation
Salary $66,560.00 (On-Site Manager Housing Included)
