Salary: $121,000-$142,000 annual salary (DOE)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Communications (Position) is a position of the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems (“OAHHS”) d/b/a Hospital Association of Oregon (“hospital association”) and Oregon Healthcare Enterprises, Inc. d/b/a Apprise Health Insights. The person is concurrently employed by both the hospital association and Apprise Health Insights. The job duties are expected to primarily relate to the position with the hospital association. The Position is a member of the communications team.


Hospital Association of Oregon (90%): The Position reports to the Vice President of Communications of the hospital association. The Director of Communications plays a pivotal role in shaping and amplifying the voice of Oregon hospitals, distilling complex policy information into compelling messaging and engaging with stakeholders across multiple platforms. The Position will work closely with the advocacy and policy teams to plan and execute events, forge relationships with key stakeholders, and monitor policy developments. Additionally, the Position will be responsible for crafting media materials, managing project schedules, developing, and executing communication plans and tactics, and championing the hospital association's brand, ensuring consistency and resonance with target audiences.


Apprise Health Insights (10%): The Position reports to the Vice President of Communications of Apprise Health Insights. The Position is responsible for crafting media materials, managing project schedules and developing and executing internal and external communications. The Position also champions the Apprise Health Insights brand and voice across various communication channels, ensuring consistency and resonance with target audiences.


Primary Responsibilities – Hospital Association of Oregon


  • Monitor and analyze developments that may impact the organization's public policy agenda or public image
  • Develop the hospital association’s messaging to members, policymakers, stakeholders, influencers, the news media and other target audiences, elevating awareness of Oregon hospitals’ community impact and priority policy issues
  • Working in close partnership with the hospital association’s advocacy team, plan and execute events that help forge relationships and alliances with key stakeholders
  • Draft media and messaging materials such as press releases, talking points, media statements, opinion pieces and fact sheets, and pitch reporters across print, broadcast and online mediums
  • Develop reports, presentations, one-page fact sheets, advocacy alerts, floor messages and other collateral materials
  • Ensure high editorial standards and quality across all content including adherence to the organization’s brand and style guides and Associated Press style
  • Serve as a highly organized project manager who oversees and drives project schedules and approval processes for internal and external deliverables
  • Execute plans and tactical communications to meet the hospital association’s immediate needs and long-term objectives
  • Collaborate with hospital association teams to develop and implement communications approaches, aligning various content across internal and external channels, including emails, website, social media, public/media relations and events
  • Manage and protect the hospital association’s brand, voice and style, ensuring adherence across owned, earned and paid channels

 

Primary Responsibilities – Apprise Health Insights

 

  • Develop Apprise Health Insight’s messaging to customers, the news media and other target audiences, elevating awareness of Apprise Health Insight’s products and impact
  • Serve as a highly organized project manager who oversees and drives schedules and approval processes for internal and external deliverables
  • Execute plans and tactical communications to meet Apprise Health Insight’s immediate needs and long-term objectives
  • Collaborate with Apprise Health Insights team to develop and implement communications approaches, aligning various content across internal and external channels, including emails, website, social media, public/media relations and events
  • Manage and protect Apprise Health Insight’s brand, voice and style, ensuring adherence across owned, earned and paid channels

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis on communications or related field
  • Interest in policy issues; ability to distill complex policy and regulatory information into tangible messaging
  • Understanding of the communications landscape and how various communications channels work
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills
  • Strong command of Associated Press (AP) style
  • Five years of experience in communications, preferably in the health care field
  • Strong understanding of and experience with media relations
  • Campaign and/or political experience (preferred)
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal staff, hospital members, partner organizations and government agencies
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple complex and highly challenging priorities
  • Ability to work collaboratively and in cross-functional teams to achieve the Hospital Association of Oregon’s communications and organizational goals
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently on concurrent projects
  • High ethical behavior and solid judgement
  • Models organizational mission, vision and values
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel)

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Able to communicate clearly by phone, in person, and through remote communication (e.g., Teams)
  • Able to travel via car and airplane.
