Position Overview:
The Finance Department Controller at Change Church is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the church, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and transparency in financial reporting and management. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong financial acumen and a commitment to stewardship and integrity.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management, preferably in a nonprofit or religious organization.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including GAAP.
- Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Financial Management: Proficient in financial management principles, practices, and tools.
- Accounting: Knowledgeable in accounting principles and practices, with the ability to prepare and analyze financial statements.
- Budgeting: Skilled in budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis.
- Financial Reporting: Experienced in preparing financial reports, statements, and forecasts.
- Compliance: Familiar with financial regulations, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance at all times.
- Communication: Communicates financial information clearly and effectively to church leadership and other stakeholders.
- Team Management: Manages and develops finance department staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.

- Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the finance department, including budgeting, financial planning, and accounting.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, statements, and forecasts, providing insights and recommendations to church leadership.
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, policies, and procedures, including tax regulations and accounting standards.
- Manage cash flow and financial risk, implementing strategies to optimize financial performance and mitigate risks.
- Collaborate with other departments and church leadership to develop and implement financial strategies that support the church's mission and goals.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ensuring transparency and accountability in financial reporting.
- Prepares/Reviews monthly closing reconciliation.
- Prepare Monthly Financial Reports.
- Prepare Monthly Variance to Budget Explanations.
- Prepares check run.
- Processes staff/contractor payroll.
- Approves purchases over $2k.
- Reconciles payroll accounts.
- Prepares sales tax returns as needed.
- Other related duties as assigned.
