Job Summary: The position of Oven Operator is responsible for measuring and molding sections of plastics to sizes required for constructing signage.

Essential Functions:

  1. Operate a PVI Thermoforming oven, trimming machinery and support equipment
    1. Form plastic backs and faces using PVI forming oven
    2. Interpret artwork to select correct size and type of plastic
    3. Set oven to correct temperatures for materials being used
    4. Ensure both plastic and molds are clear of debris
    5. Review artwork to ensure correct number of pieces have been formed
    6. Make adjustments to production machinery as needed to ensure product meets customer specifications and to minimize machine downtown and scrap rates
    7. Perform basic machinery maintenance repairs as directed by Plant Manager
    8. Perform job setups on machinery as directed by Plant Manager
    9. Lift plastic molds
    10. Work in a very warm area that could reach temperatures over 90 degrees during the summer
    11. Sets stops and guides to specified length indicated by scale, rule or template
    12. Measures work piece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation
    13. Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction
  2. Operation of the following tools in a safe manner according to OSHA and company guidelines:
    1. Jig Saw
    2. Sander
    3. Brand Saw
    4. Skill Saw
    5. Forklift
    6. Overhead cranes
    7. Other miscellaneous hand tools
  3. Maintain work area and machinery/tools in good safe working condition
  4. Verifies conformance of work piece to specifications, using square, ruler, and measuring tape
  5. Interpret blueprint and sketches
  6. Follow the rules and regulations related to the safety of all employees working for the Company
    1. Adherence to all mandated safety procedures including: driving policy, production area safety requirements and fire safety
    2. Safety requires all employees to review materials provided by the Company related to any updates on safety procedures
    3. Informs management of any safety related issues
  7. Ensures safety of self and others through proper use and care of equipment/work area
    1. Handles and operates all equipment in a careful and safe manner
    2. Maintains tools and equipment in good working order and stores them properly
    3. Keeps all work areas neat and clear of potential hazards
  8. Other duties as assigned.

  13. Apply personal safety measures including utilizing the correct PPE
  14. Ability to take measurement of a job (ex: using a tape measure, steel rule, tri square)
  15. Knowledge of packing/crating procedures

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. The use of hearing protection and safety eyewear is required. The use of additional specific safety equipment may be required.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to perform the following activities:

  1. Standing.
  2. Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  3. Fingering. Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers.
  4. Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  5. Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  6. Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
  7. Light work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  8. Visual Acuity. To perform close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; and visual inspection.
  9. Reaching: Extending hands and arms in all direction
  10. Forward bending, squatting, overhead reaching, kneeling/crawling, and climbing
  11. Continuous standing
  12. Lifting: Up to 70 lbs and team lifting up to 100 lbs
  13. Carry and use 5 lb to 10 lb power tools or paint containers very frequently
  14. Pushing and pulling
  15. Moderate level of hand to eye coordination and dexterity including picking, pinching, holding, grasping and repetitive flexion/rotation

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, 40 hour a week position with overtime as required. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel: No travel required.

Educational Requirements:

  1. Highschool diploma or GED.

Preferred Educational Requirements:

  1. Technical school training or certification

Knowledge Requirements:

  1. Prior experience as a thermoforming operator is a plus
  2. Ability to learn the thermoforming and trimming machinery and demonstration of the ability to adjust machinery and control the production process
  3. Ability to learn product quality requirements, and demonstration of applying that knowledge so that all parts being produced meet customer requirements
  4. Ability to learn tooling components and how tooling is involved in the thermoforming process
  5. Ability to learn job setups in machinery and demonstration of the ability to take jobs from setup into production
  6. Ability to learn to operate a PVI forming oven
  7. Forklift certificate
  8. General construction methods
  9. Hand tools
  10. Overhead crane certification
  11. OSHA general industry standards
