Job description

Wood-Fired Oven Operator (Baker)

Water Street Bagel Co. โ€“ Syracuse, NY
About the Role
We are looking for a reliable, hardworking team member to join our team as a Wood-Fired Oven Operator. This is a fast-paced, hands-on position working with our traditional wood-fired oven to produce high-quality bagels throughout the day.
Youโ€™ll be part of the early morning/mid morning crew and play a key role in keeping our bake consistent, efficient, and up to our standards.
What Youโ€™ll Do
  • ย Assist with opening and preparing the oven and baking areaย 
  • ย Help build and maintain the wood-fired ovenย 
  • ย Load and unload bagels to maintain a steady, continuous bakeย 
  • ย Work closely with the baking team to keep production flowingย 
  • ย Monitor bagel quality and remove anything that doesnโ€™t meet standardsย 
  • ย Keep your station clean, organized, and food-safeย 
  • ย Support daily production and catering needsย 
  • ย Interact with customers in a friendly and professional wayย 
What Weโ€™re Looking For

  • ย Ability to take direction and stay on taskย 
  • ย Baking or kitchen experience preferred (but we will train the right person)
Hours & Schedule
  • ย Part-time: approximately 15โ€“20 hours per week
  • ย Weekday shifts may start as early as 3:30 AM โ€“ 9:30ish AM
  • ย Weekend shifts may be approximately 7:00 AM โ€“ 12:30ish PM (give or take)
  • Weekend availability is required
Physical Requirements
  • ย Able to lift up to 50 lbsย 
  • ย Able to stand for long periodsย 
  • ย Able to go up and down stairs frequentlyย 
  • Able to be in front of a 500 degree oven and boiler
Schedule & Expectations
  • ย Early morning shifts requiredย 
  • ย Weekend availability is requiredย 
  • ย Fast-paced environment (we handle high volume daily)ย
