Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Chief Academic Officer (CAO) will play a pivotal role in driving the pursuit of a dynamic educational experience for all NHA scholars, aligning academics with the Efficacy vision of the school to provide students with innovative learning experiences that lead to college and career readiness. The CAO will supervise academic performance, align operational and financial resources to ensure tremendous student outcomes and provide support to members of the Senior Leadership Team.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT

12 months; extended day (7:45am-4:45pm)

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

·       Master’s degree in education with comparable management-level experience.

·       NYS Administrative Credentials, or eligible for reciprocity.

·       A minimum of ten years of professional experience and a minimum of five years as a successful principal, with strong results.

·       Expertise in leading charter schools within New York City or similar urban settings.

·       Extensive experience leading teams through complex challenges.

·       Ability to inspire and motivate teams to remain mission focused, even during times of difficulty.

·       Passion for working with middle/high school aged children.

·       Preference for bilingual candidates.

·       Proven strength in classroom management and discipline skills.

·       Passion for developing a strong school community that supports the development and achievement of all students, particularly those underserved and at risk in other school settings.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Shared Vision School Culture & Family Engagement:

·       Executes the vision for high student achievement and college readiness for all students.

·       Holds adults and students accountable for demonstrating values and behaviors that align with the school’s vision.

·       Foster collaboration among school leaders to ensure school-wide alignment.

·       Develops cultural competence and a commitment to equity in adults and students.

·       Engages families and communities as partners to enhance student achievement and success.

Teaching and Learning:

·       Implements rigorous curricula and assessments tied to both state and college-readiness standards.

·       Implements high-quality, effective classroom instructional strategies that drive increases in student achievement.

·       Monitors multiple forms of student level data to inform instructional and intervention decisions
Provide leadership and accountability for the school’s academic services, as well as the academic performance of the school’s students.

·       Oversee program design, implementation, and achievement of all specialized learning groups, including students with IEPs, emergent bilingual and multilingual students.

Talent Management:

·       Recruits, hires, assigns, and retains effective staff.

·       Increases teacher effectiveness through professional learning structures.

·       Develop equitable structures for annual school planning, including accountability measures.

·       Completes rigorous evaluations of instructional staff for continuous improvement and accountability for results.

·       Trains, develops, and supports a high-performing instructional leadership team.

Strategic Planning & Systems:

·       Identifies school-wide priorities, sets ambitious student learning goals and implements an aligned strategic plan.

·       Organizes school time to support all student learning and staff development priorities.

·       Allocates resources to align with the strategic plan.

·       Adhere to safety protocols outlined in both written guidelines and verbal directives.

Personal Leadership & Growth:

·       Demonstrates self-awareness, reflection, ongoing learning, and resiliency in the service of school-wide continuous improvement.

·       Constructively manages change with the ultimate goal of improving student achievement.

·       Communicates openly and clearly based on the situation, audience, and needs.

·       Demonstrate good judgment and good problem-solving skills.

·       Lead and guide individuals effectively.

·       Inspire trust with students, parents, and colleagues.

·       Make independent decisions.

·       Organize tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks.

·       Plan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive student management program which leads to a positive school culture.

·       Respond appropriately to evaluation and changes in the work setting.

·       Work autonomously within school established guidelines and policies.

·       Work effectively with staff, students, and public.

We are an independent public charter school, and we are not affiliated with any management organization.

Since our opening, we have grown to serve 750 students in grades 5-12 and achieved an average annual graduation rate that exceeds the rest of the city. New Heights provides our students with an academically rigorous education that will prepare them to pursue whatever educational and professional path they choose.
