Position Summary

Provide case management, advocacy support, and community referrals to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and human trafficking using the Trauma-Informed Care Model. Assess survivor needs, create individualized case plans, collaborate with community partners, and promote resiliency and empowerment.

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in social work, counseling, criminal justice or related field preferred. If no degree, 2-years related experience required.
  • At least 2 years of case management experience.
  • Maintain valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.
  • Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal background check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Federal Bureau of Investigations).

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide case management to survivors, while empowering them to make their own choices.
  • Provide confidential services to survivors including, but not limited to, crisis intervention, referrals, safety planning, and follow-up support as needed.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and be flexible in multi-tasking to meet the needs of the shelter.
  • Lead by example for other staff to learn from. Behaviors such as maintaining a positive attitude, remaining calm in a crisis, setting boundaries with clients and staff, utilizing on-call when necessary, and making informed decisions for the safety of survivors and staff.
  • Complete all Intake paperwork, develop individualized case plans, monitor case plan progress, and assist survivors and families with housing options and community resources.
  • Compile and report monthly statistics accurately and timely to Manager of Supportive Services. Complete all necessary statistical information, surveys, and documentation as directed.
  • Assist with providing shelter coverage when needed, maintain/contribute to the health and safety of everyone in shelter, transport survivors when needed, facilitate conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques, and encourage and model positive shelter interactions by connecting with each survivor daily.
  • Work with Housing Specialists to assist survivors and families identify and sustain permanent housing.
  • Work directly with other agencies to secure services on behalf of survivors and their children.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members and volunteers to ensure best practices in service delivery. Must be a team-player and work independently.
  • Develop and facilitate specialized workshops and programming for families to strengthen their life and self-sufficiency skills.
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled and participate in staff development activities. Assist Manager of Supportive Services in providing training related to domestic violence, trauma, and other tailored activities for survivors.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the program goals and objectives, ensuring the quality of services delivered to the survivors and community.

  • Always adheres to Service Excellence standards.
  • Represent Battered Women’s Shelter by participating in community activities, coalitions, and taskforce groups as requested or assigned by Supervisor and/or Director.
  • Complies with agency policies and procedures, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; step up and down; stoop, kneel, crouch; talk, hear and drive. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Work environment: This position will be in a facility with victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. In addition to interaction with the survivors, the employee may have interactions with families of these individuals, the assailants and law enforcement.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Hours vary and may include evenings, weekends and holiday coverage

Additional Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly with diverse populations. Ability to model open communication, fair and equitable treatment, management of conflicts, and be able to work in a fast-paced work environment.
