Job Description

Harris-Stowe State University is a historically Black institution (HBCU) located in the heart of vibrant mid-town St. Louis, Missouri. Job Summary

Harris-Stowe State University was awarded a $3.5 million five-year Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Grant by the National Science Foundation. The Missouri Alliance (MoLSAMP) consists of nine alliance institutions— Harris-Stowe State University, Lincoln University, Missouri State University, Truman State University, University of Central Missouri, University of Missouri - Columbia, University of Missouri - St. Louis, Washington University in St. Louis, and St. Louis Community College. The goal of the alliance is to aggressively increase the number of underrepresented groups (i.e., African-Americans, Native Americans, Hispanics, and Pacific Islanders) earning STEM degrees in the State of Missouri.

Essential Functions

Working in close collaboration with the MOLSAMP Principal Investigator (PI), the Director manages all day-to-day operations of MOLSAMP and supports the PI by facilitating leadership and executing the priorities of the grant including, implementing project activities, managing grant data, preparing monthly alliance meetings, overseeing an alliance-wide cohort, and developing monthly and annual reports. Organizing monthly alliance meetings includes developing the agenda, securing guest speakers, documenting meeting notes for dissemination, and following up on action steps developed out of the meetings. The Director will also serve as the point of contact for the PI, Co-PIs, and site coordinators at each of the nine MOLSMAP Alliance institutions to collect all student participant data and continuously track data towards the progress of the three main objectives of the Alliance. Additionally, the Director is expected to work in concert with site coordinators at Alliance institutions to ensure that the activities of the grant are implemented. The Director provides support with monitoring the MOLSAMP budget and administrating accounting operations for the alliance.

The Director will also be charged with managing a special dissemination project aimed at capturing and highlighting MOLSMAP undergraduate research through developing, designing, and sustaining an online portal that will chronicle the MOLSAMP Undergraduate Research Symposium.

Additional responsibilities and duties of The Director include the maintenance of the Alliance’s website, support for Alliance campuses’ website, and developing a social media strategy for improving the overall digital footprint of MOLSAMP’s online media presence. The Director will work with the PI to conduct site visits to Alliance campuses to monitor the project and work towards sustaining synergy between all Alliance institutions. Duties also include collaborating with host institutions to plan and execute the annual undergraduate research conference, the summer undergraduate research experience programs, and the Summer Sophomore STEM Institute.

The Director will assist the PI with project implementation write-ups from the Alliance campuses to ensure timeliness for NSF annual report writing and submission.

Minimum Education and Experience

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in biology, math, or other science-related disciplines or an education or social science degree is required. Master's degree in aforementioned degree areas preferred. At least two (2) years of experience in project management, program, and student development and evaluation. Additionally, experience in technology, particularly social media, working with underrepresented groups developing and launching academic programs, organizing events, and working in diverse work settings is required.
