Job Description

Reports to: Board of Directors

Status: 25-32 hours/week with seasonality around programming

Salary: $60,000 - $65,000 annually

Benefits: $250 /month health care stipend. Flexible schedule, including paid time off

Work Location: Hybrid. The Executive Director (ED) can perform much of their work remotely. This position requires traveling to Clark County, WA and surrounding areas to network, attend meetings (may require consecutive days), and LCC class sessions and some meetings.

About Us:

We are a 501c3 nonprofit founded in 1993 by a group of community leaders to provide nonpartisan civic leadership programming. Our mission is to develop effective leaders to enrich a thriving community.

At Leadership Clark County, we offer a 9-month leadership development program that focuses on topics that impact the community, including education, economics, social services, and more. With more than 800 alumni and growing, LCC’s graduates serve the community as nonprofit board members, civic group leaders, business leaders, and elected officials.

LCC is managed by the Executive Director, eight (8) active committees and a Board of Directors composed of volunteers, most of whom are alumni of the program. Along with the Board of Directors, the committees focus on: Curriculum, Development, Executive, Governance, Finance, Marketing, Recruitment, and Alumni.

Executive Director Role Summary:

The Executive Director oversees all Leadership Clark County operations, programs, and volunteer activities in a coordinated effort to carry out LCC’s mission.

This role works towards developing effective leaders to enrich a thriving community in Clark County, WA. As the sole paid and administrative position in the organization, the Executive Director is charged with administering the policies of Leadership Clark County (LCC), leading and conducting the day-to-day business of the organization, and managing the assets of LCC as directed by the LCC Board of Directors. Reporting directly to the LCC Board Chair and with primary reporting function communication responsibility to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is an ex-officio member of the Board and its committees, and integral to progressing the vision of the Board.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Organization Management

Oversee back-up administrative contractor to:

  • Answer phones and respond to community inquiries on a regular basis
  • Manage email, email newsletters, social media, website and other communication.
  • Data entry and preparation for all financial activities including registrations, bill pay, monthly financial reports, grant tracking, etc.
  • Prepare materials for all classes including collecting class information, printing and delivery to class locations.
  • Oversee alumni database, donor database and sponsorship packets.

Program and Community Engagement

  • Organize the support of volunteers, all aspects of the nine-month leadership development program including: class recruitment efforts, session planning and facilitation, upholding LCC expectations and attending sessions. 
  • Mobilize volunteers with transparency, guidance, and regular engagement to achieve LCC's goals
  • Manage activities of the organization including the various receptions, breakfasts and recognition events of the organization working closely with the sponsoring committee, volunteers, and the Board.
  • Advance the LCC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion plan within LCC class sessions and actively engaging with culturally specific communities and organizations across the county.   
  • Build and maintain close relationships with key stakeholders and community & business partnerships to increase collaboration and connection.

Fundraising

  • Create and implement fundraising plans.
  • Identify potential new grant, corporate, and investment opportunities and coordinate proposals.
  • Regularly engage with donors and prospective donors to build a (major) gift pipeline in support of LCC.

Governance & Leadership

  • Promote and engage Board Members in the vision, mission, and goals of LCC into a strong, community-based organization.
  • Lead strategic planning and implementation efforts of LCC to meet the needs of the community as it grows and changes.
  • Assume leadership of and develop accountability measures for advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts within organization culture, policies, programs, and practices.
  • Provide regular, transparent and relevant communication between board and staff.
  • Manage, attend and support the standing and ad hoc Committees to ensure annual outcomes and strategic plan goals are achieved.

Fiscal Management

  • Oversee financial assets while ensuring compliance with organization, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Recommend yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manage organization's resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations. 
  • Work directly with the Executive Committee, preparing the organization’s annual budget.
  • Engage in annual audits, tax preparation, and financial reviews.
  • Provide regular financial reports to the Board.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of experience working in a lead, or supervisory role with volunteers.
  • 3+ years of experience with program development, execution and evaluation
  • Demonstrated interest in civic engagement, civic education and community engagement
  • Demonstrated personal commitment to progressing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • Three (3) years of active fundraising success including individual campaigns, corporate sponsorships, and foundation proposals.
  • Financial aptitude with budgets and reporting.
  • Experience managing multiple independent initiatives within strategic boundaries set by board.
  • Able to provide own local transportation in the SW WA/Greater Portland area in the execution of above duties.

Additional Desired Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences.
  • Knowledge of organizations and educational entities in Clark County.
  • Strong team-building skills emphasizing organizational goals and mission-oriented success.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills in small group and public settings with training in active listening and DEI.
  • Desktop publishing, Adobe Creative Suite, QuickBooks and standard database application experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior instructional design experience highly desired.
