Job Description

Natural State Laboratories and Natural State Genomics are independent laboratories serving the clinical diagnostic, toxicology, genetic, and molecular testing needs of healthcare facilities in Arkansas and around the country.

Natural State Laboratories and Natural State Genomics are looking for a Senior Controller who is knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and adaptable. This individual will work closely with our executive committee in the areas of finance and accounting.

In this leadership role, the candidate will assist in managing the accounting functions within the company including timely monthly financial statements, inventory management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and department budgets. The Senior Controller will provide valuable input on laboratory division budgets, monthly/quarterly operating plan variance analysis, special projects, capital expenditure planning, profitability analysis, strategic pricing comparisons, industry/peer group comparisons, and other analytical support to business leaders to optimize organizational performance.

Responsibilities and Duties will include:

  • Prepare, record, analyze, and report accounting transactions.
  • Implement and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Ensure the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles
  • Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensure that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
  • Coordinate, prepare, and analyze various monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting activities, including SEC, GAAP, and regulatory filings.
  • Manage the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, fixed asset records, general & entity accounting, and cost accounting.
  • Recommend benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
  • Produce the annual budget and forecasts; report significant budget differences to management.
  • Provide financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Monitor and review processes and reports to ensure the accuracy of the financial statements and compliance with SOX controls.
  • Perform Balance Sheet and P&L accounts reconciliation
  • Prepare journal entries and other work papers that support the preparation of the monthly/annual financial statements and audits
  • Work with external auditors and provide needed information for the annual audit
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements
  • Ability to work collaboratively across all departments and effectively communicate complex financial matters to non-financial business users
  • Utilize extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Responsible for acquiring key knowledge of the company's operational interworking and business strategies and proactively anticipating and responding to environmental shifts
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration with an Accounting/Finance emphasis.
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of diverse accounting experience
  • Must have experience in technical accounting areas such as consolidations, revenue recognition, stock options, and regulatory filings and reporting
  • In-depth knowledge and utilization of QuickBooks
  • Demonstrate leadership ability at the senior level in an organization with a strong sense of urgency and drive
  • Excellent Excel skills are required to include Pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas, and functions
  • Ability to meet high deadline demands with accurate and timely information
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, especially as it relates to budget-to-actual variances
  • Experience working in start-ups is a plus
  • Ability to work well as part of a high-performing team
