Job Description/Summary:
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Support and Ancillary Services with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Executive Director of Facilities and Support Services at UCSF Health. The Director of Facilities Management is responsible for the planning, organizing, and direct operations of the hospital's Facility/Plant Operations and Maintenance. The Director will coordinate and lead the department to ensure safety and regulatory compliance through continuous, efficient and cost-effective operations of the hospital's buildings and equipment. The role directs and manages the staff to assure quality service and promotes teamwork. The director will ensure continuous, efficient and cost-effective operations of the hospital's buildings and equipment to assure the highest standards of quality, customer service, regulatory compliance and environmental health and safety. The director is responsible for the hospital meeting the standards and requirements established by The Joint Commission, Cal-OSHA, OSHPD, and local jurisdictions, including all local building and safety requirements, complying with hospital policy and procedures, and effectively managing human resources.

Position Requirements:
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture or related field. Master's degree preferred.
Minimum Experience: Five (5) years of facilities/plant management experience in a California Acute Care Hospital.
License Required: Maintain a current Valid California driver's license and be able to meet all hospital insurance carrier requirements.
Certification Required: CHFM certification preferred. Membership in American Society Healthcare Engineering preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong working knowledge of various building trades work and other crafts (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, and electrical, steam, diesel engineering, HVAC), as applied to operations and maintenance of building structures and plant systems.
  • Knowledge of Fire Life Safety regulations and building codes.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, including but not limited to: The Joint Commission, CDPH, Title 22, NFPA, and OSHPD.
  • Strong working knowledge to read and interpret blueprints and manufacturers' specifications.
  • Familiarity with industrial ordering procedures, cost computations, and inspection procedures.
  • Must possess good organization skills, self-assurance, and the ability to gain and hold the respect of employees working under his/her supervision

Technical Knowledge:
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of physical plant operations and maintenance, maintenance of life safety systems, elevator systems, security and fire alarm suppression systems, major and minor construction and remodeling, and medical support systems in order to assure the safety, comfortable and efficient environment for patients, staff and visitors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of energy conservation and management principles and techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of waste disposal principles and techniques, including the disposal of hazardous and infectious waste.
  • Strong working knowledge of various building trades work and other crafts (i.e. plumbing, carpentry, electrical, steam and diesel engineering) as they apply to the operation and maintenance of building structures and plant systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hospital safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with industrial ordering procedures, cost computations and inspection procedures.
  • Broad-based knowledge of building systems and the building trades.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in and to lead team efforts that value and balance the interests of operating, maintenance custodial and engineering personnel and the client or customer.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment of changing priorities.
  • Skills to effectively communicate orally, in writing, and electronically.
  • Ability to utilize principles of management to ensure responsibilities are met effectively and efficiently which includes: planning, controlling, leading and organizing.
  • Proficient in a variety of software applications including automated service ticket systems and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Lift/Push/Pull: 50 lbs, over 50# with assistance or equipment
