The Center for Educational Outreach (CEO) within the Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins University will have significant impact on the future science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) workforce by increasing the number of STEM leaders from underrepresented groups. Our mission is to engage JHU faculty and students to inspire and prepare PK-12 students in STEM education and careers. CEO is the resource for Johns Hopkins University STEM faculty and students looking to do STEM educational outreach with PK-12 students, teachers and/or families of Baltimore City Public Schools (City Schools).

We are seeking a **_Elementary Science Curriculum Writer_** who will report to the Baltimore Programs Director of the Center for Educational Outreach in the Whiting School of Engineering. The Elementary Science Curriculum Writer will be responsible for working with Baltimore City Public Schools - Office of Teaching & Learning - Science to rewrite and/or revise their K-5 science curriculum with engineering components to make it ready for national distribution. _Note: This position is a full-time position that is scheduled to end in one year. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship._

**Specific Duties & Responsibilities**

+ Conduct a review of SABES K-5 science curriculum units for broad understanding of content, format, and pedagogy. + Conduct a review for a grade K-2 unit and a grade 3-5 unit and estimate the time it takes to complete remaining units. + Develop a project plan with a timeline for rewrite, reviews, and updating material kits and manage the process with frequent status reports to the team. + Rewrite and/or update SABES K-5 science curriculum units as needed including unit assessments, student handouts and other teacher resources while incorporating input from classroom teachers and ensuring appropriate literacy and math integrations and including English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and special education modifications or accommodations. + Contact copyright owners requesting permissions, as needed. + Incorporate results of reviews of rewritten units including feedback from the following

City Schools elementary science classroom teachers.

City Schools Office of Teaching & Learning - Science.

City Schools Office of Teaching & Learning - Math (Ensure appropriate grade level content).

City Schools Office of Teaching & Learning - Differentiated Learning.

City Schools - Office of Special Education.

+ Work with the City Schools vendor to update materials including in curriculum kits.

**Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**

+ Expertise in K-5 Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). + Working knowledge of K-5 literacy and math standards (Common Core). + Working knowledge of copyright law as it applies to nationally distributed curriculum. + Familiarity with Achieve Equip rubric. + Project management experience. + Works well under pressure. + Skilled at proactive problem-solving. + Strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills. + Excellent organizational and time management skills. + Strong attention to detail and follow through. + Takes direction and takes ownership to meet project goals.

**Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications**

+ Proficient with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. + Proficient with team collaboration platforms (One Drive, MS Teams, One Note, Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms). + Proficient with operating virtual meetings (Zoom, Google Classroom, etc.).

**Minimum Qualifications**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Education, Science, curriculum writing or related field. + Two years of experience in teaching, education, and/or curriculum writing. + In-depth knowledge of experience in K-12 science curriculum writing.

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Master's Degree in education, particularly curriculum writing or assessment, or science or related field. + 3 - 5 years of experience in K-5 science curriculum writing. + In-depth knowledge of K-12 science content and courses.

30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.
