Position: Senior Desktop Engineer
Team: InfoSec & Infrastructure Team
Profile:A "true " Engineer that has worked at an enterprise level (same size) as client who has project managed solutions. Familiar with both windows and mac operating systems and mobile devices (apple and others). This is not a "support " role, but an "engineer solutions " role.
The Client, the national educational organization, is conducting a search for a Senior Desktop Engineer for our Technology department.This position is based in our Reston, Virginia office.

About the Role
The Sr. Desktop Engineer will interact directly with IT engineering, and operational staff to implement new desktop management and collaboration technologies. This individual is responsible for the development, design and ongoing support for infrastructure operating systems, infrastructure services and COTs applications. The Sr. Desktop Engineer will provide engineering support to Business Delivery, Information Security along with other organizations within the Client to develop solutions that meet business needs.
The candidate must have in depth knowledge of operating systems and system configurations, and in one or more COTs systems supporting the enterprise.
The Sr. Desktop Engineer will provide tier III incident support as well as ongoing planning for system operation and improvement. The successful candidate will interface with customers, peers, and vendors to resolve configuration and operational issues, integration problems, and related technology problems.

What you'll do
  • Engineer, design and deploy solutions in support of development efforts.
  • Provide technical leadership in primary areas of competence and provide technical project leadership support.
  • Develop increasing expertise in key technologies, focusing on three-tiered, web- based solutions.
  • Maintain experience and expertise in problem definition, requirements analysis and the general design and integration of systems.
  • Develop an increasing appreciation for technologies and architectures, including; enterprise architecture strategies and deployment best practices, architecture and component performance testing, hosting strategies and infrastructure architectures, and SDLC.
  • Manage enterprise COTs, infrastructure services, or internal developed solutions to ensure an available and reliable system.
  • Develop architecture diagrams, briefings and training on new end-user services.
  • Interacting directly with IT, ISO, engineering, and operational staff to implement new or enhance existing technologies.
  • Gather technical and business requirements, develop customized solutions and manage customer expectations.
  • Proven experience in managing technologies in enterprise with a drive for understanding customer needs and operational excellence.
  • Ability to provide advice and recommendations on system upgrades, replacements, or new systems.
  • Communication with vendors for upgrades and troubleshooting issues with equipment and software
  • Capable of training and demonstrating product features and operation to non-technical customers.
  • Provide and assist with project management and project leadership on technical implementations and projects.
  • Participate to define and lead performance testing efforts.
  • Provide technical support to third parties regarding the use, understanding, design, and implementation of Client products, providing end user and on-site support when required.
  • Assist in deployment of new applications and services as well as provide tier II/III incident support.
  • Position may supervise or mentor more junior technical project resources.
  • Represent the Client and its products in inter-company meetings, and industry conferences.

About you
  • Possess a bachelor's degree in a related field, plus additional related college courses or professional training.
  • Ten years of progressively responsible directly related experience, including project leadership experience.
  • Proven experience in managing technologies in enterprise with a drive for understanding customer needs and operational excellence.
  • Depth in MAC or Windows operating systems with strong understanding of Client and virtual operating environments.
  • Working knowledge of use of public cloud services.
  • Experience managing large end-user rollouts of desktop management solutions.
  • Experience with Windows Desktop Engineering with proven technology expertise in more than one relevant core areas such as, Active Directory, Windows Desktop Image Engineering, Software Distribution, and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Experience in mobile device management especially with Apple devices and Windows Desktop management will be advantageous.
  • Experience planning, designing, and implementing new software solutions.
