Job Description

The Virginia Air and Space Center is hiring to add an Individual Giving Manager to its Philanthropic Team.

The Individual Giving Manager for the Virginia Air and Space Center (VASC), located in Hampton Virginia, will lead the philanthropic development of individual donors for the organization, raising funds and creating a sustainable platform for the center to educate, entertain, and inspire explorers of all ages.

This position leads in the development and implementation of goals and strategies for all individual donor fundraising campaigns at the Virginia Air and Space Center (VASC). The Individual Giving Manager is responsible for working with the Executive Director, the Development Manager, and the Board of Directors for planning and coordinating all aspects of fund development with individuals: Acquisition, Retention, and Conversion to major gifts. The position leads the strategic development, implementation, and measurement of fundraising initiatives including Annual Fund, Donor Development, and Major Gifts.

Identify, organize, and manage the fundraising activities for the individual donors of VASC with a focus on new opportunities to obtain ongoing and increased support from individuals, volunteers, and members at all points in the donor development funnel. Develop and maintain a prospect portfolio to optimize fundraising opportunities. Track and maintain all reports and records for development. Lead the executive team and the board through fundraising processes and track progress.

Proven Experience in being able to lead and implement the following Job Tasks:

· Writing and delivering communication of ideas and information

The Virginia Air & Space Center, celebrating 28 years of educational excellence as the official visitor center for NASA Langley Research Center, features interactive aviation exhibits spanning 100 years of flight, more than 30 historic aircraft, a hands-on space exploration gallery, unique space flight artifacts, and more.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

-Four years in Individual Giving or Major Gift Fund Development.

-B.S. or B.A. required (or equivalent experience)

-Knowledge of organizational and departmental policies and procedures pertaining to fundraising and donor development; marketing strategies, processes, and available resources; budget preparation and fiscal management.

-Excellent demonstrable written and verbal communication skills.

-Individual Giving Program development and leadership skills, database and records maintenance skills.

- Ability to make evaluative judgments, foster effective working relationships within a team environment, manage conflict and build essential partnerships to ensure fundraising success, gather data, analyze information and prepare reports.

-Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively and professionally with staff, administration, prospective and current donors, trustees, volunteers, and vendors.

- Ability to present effectively to small and large groups.

- Demonstrated ability to supervise and train volunteers, persuade and influence others.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Proven Experience in being able to lead and implement the following Job Tasks:

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Lead the Executive Director in cultivating individual donors; ·

  • Draft and update templates for annual, major and planned giving materials, individual communication tools, recognition, stewardship, and general relationship documents; ·

  • Prepare and coordinate individual donor communications: mailings, newsletters, annual report mailings, as part of strategic activities;

  • Design and manage individual giving funnel from acquisition, to nurturing, to investment;

  • Maintain files (electronic and hard copy) on individual donors and donor prospects

PLANNING

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive written annual resource development plan with strategies for individual donors and prospects that illustrate and fully defines the funnel of cultivation from acquisition through large investments (including planned and endowment),

  • Provide monthly reports to the ED and the board which measure progress towards achieving goals against the plan;

  • Broaden VASC’s fundraising by developing approaches to expand geographic reach on individual donor engagement.

  • Participate with Executive Director and Development Manager in the overall development of a VASC Philanthropy Strategy

GIFT CULTIVATION

  • Create and implement strategies for donor development and cultivation which will provide a diverse and sustainable funding base for VASC;

  • Keep up-to-date on current fundraising programs, practices and procedures used in the nonprofit sector and inform the affiliate leadership of items that would benefit VASC

  • Create and implement annual fund, major gifts/campaign program, planned giving program, and membership giving program;

  • Build and maintain relationships with major donors of all types, develop strategies for solicitation, and solicit or coordinate the solicitation by other affiliate staff, board or volunteers, as appropriate;

  • Create and update collateral materials to support gift cultivation

MARKETING

  • Assist with production of printed/electronic collateral for development work specific to Individual Giving;

  • Provide written content for marketing including blog posts and social media for development effort specific to Individual Giving

DATABASE MANAGEMENT

  • Develop a working knowledge of the development database, Versai;

  • Track donor interactions through the database;

  • Understand and execute the process for gift entry and acknowledgment;

  • Create and run reports for giving history, mailings, and more;

  • Create and report on donor and foundation pipelines

ADMINISTRATION

  • Book travel arrangements for donor meetings, development, and special activities;

  • Prepare and monitor department invoicing and A/P with Finance;

  • Maintain development department supplies

VASC CULTURAL WORK EXPECTATIONS

  • Answer and direct incoming phone calls as needed;

  • Assist in organizing and scheduling meetings and appointments;

  • Produce and distribute memos, faxes, and other correspondence as needed;

  • Provide general support to visitors;

  • Provide information to internal and external individuals and groups by answering questions, researching information, and delivering on requests;

  • Handle multiple projects at once;

  • Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
