Job description

Position: Applications Engineering Manager

Location: San Jose, CA

Reports To: Director of Marketing

Position Overview

The Applications Engineering Manager will lead and grow Mountz’ Applications Engineering team, shaping the future of customer-facing technical services while acting as a critical bridge between customers, marketing, product and engineering teams, and development partners. This role combines technical leadership with organizational responsibility: building a high-performing team of applications engineers and ensuring customers receive best-in-class technical support. 

This individual must have deep technical expertise in manufacturing environments and electromechanical systems, while also demonstrating the leadership skills to manage, mentor, and expand a team that delivers measurable impact.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development 

  • Build, shape, and grow the Applications Engineering team hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers to ensure long-term organizational success. Manage on-site Applications Engineers at key clients. 
  • Design, contribute and support strategic Applications Engineering initiatives. 
  • Establish and track KPIs for team effectiveness, service delivery, and customer success. 
  • Foster a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement within the team. Modernize the learning and development program to ensure all Applications Engineers achieve the highest technical standards. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (Master’s preferred).
    · 8+ years of experience in manufacturing or industrial environments, with direct experience integrating devices into factory systems.
    · 3+ years of experience leading or managing a technical team; proven ability to recruit, grow, and develop engineering talent. 

Strong understanding of:
- PLC systems.
- Electromechanical systems, including servo motors, motion profiles, and controls

- MES systems, work cell controls, and process documentation systems. 

Deep technical expertise in fastening and assembly processes. 

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally. 

Experience managing budgets, timelines, and multi-stakeholder projects. 

Preferred: Professional proficiency in Korean or Spanish.

Travel: 25% (domestic and international)

$170K - $ 180K / year
