Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBLE TO: ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATOR

Directs all non-physician activities within the Radiology Department. Works with Chief Radiologist to provide timely radiological reports. Performs all administrative duties and supervises all hospital employees within the Radiology Department.

REQUIREMENTS:

Completion of formal radiologic training in an AMA approved school of Radiology Technology.

Must be a Registered Radiology Technologist registered with American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) as well as Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) a Division of Nuclear Safety.

Must have at least 3 years Supervisory experience in the Radiology Department and/or a previous Director of Radiology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Directs operational activities within the Department.

2. Evaluates radiological services and maintains standard of quality.

3. Supervises, evaluates and counsels employees regarding performance, conduct, attendance and other related matters.

4. Confers with Radiologist regarding changes in technique and medications; informs Technologist of such changes. Confers with Radiologist on matters referred by Technologist, documents changes appropriately.

5. Investigates/resolves incident reports and problem sheets.

6. Communicates closely with the Chief Radiologist.

7. Produces statistics to reflect the level of departmental activity.

8. Ensures that quality assurance monitors are in place and checks results of tests with Radiologist.

9. Determines departmental goals and articulates them to the staff, develops and annual budget.

10. Plans for appropriate department coverage.

11. Investigates new products being used in the field.

12. Attends seminars to remain current in the field of Radiology.

13. Supervises all department personnel to ensure compliance to departmental as well as hospital-wide rules and regulations.

14. Ensures that billing procedures are followed. Evaluates departmental costs.

15. Ensures that department resources are in adequate supply.

16. Addresses patient and Medical Staff complaints. Follows up to ensure satisfactory resolutions are reached.

17. Develops long-range operational plan relative to services, programs, capital and human resource planning.

18. Oversees the annual quality assurance/quality control plans

19. Ensures that staff receives proper in-service and training to perform tasks within their expertise.

20. Ensures that information systems technology is effectively utilized.

21. Prepares and presents or provides for in-service education programs for new equipment, new procedures and new policies.

22. Prepares and updates departmental policies.

23. Provides radiation safety protection to patient, staff and self according to prescribed safety standards. Ensures that safety procedures are followed.

24. Recruits, interviews and selects employees.

25. Reviews and approves overtime, ensures the accurate processing of departmental payroll records.

26. Satisfies all requirements for regulatory agencies, FEDERAL, STATE, LOCAL, etc.

27. Promotes adherence to the Hospital’s mission to provide excellent patient care.
