Job description

The Evidence-Based Health & Wellness Program Instructor facilitates the delivery of YMCA evidence-based health programs, including LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, Moving For Better Balance, and EnhanceFitness. This role supports adult and older adult participants through safe, engaging, and inclusive group-based physical activity programs that promote strength, balance, mobility, confidence, and overall well-being. Instructors may be trained and scheduled to lead one or more programs based on organizational need and individual qualifications. All programs are delivered in strict accordance with national curriculum standards to ensure program fidelity and positive participant outcomes .

Program Delivery & Participant Support

Facilitate group-based evidence-based health programs, including:

o LIVESTRONG at the YMCA (physical activity and well-being program for adult cancer survivors)

o Moving For Better Balance (group exercise program based on the principles of Tai Chi)

o EnhanceFitness (group exercise program to support older adults in staying active)

Create a safe, inclusive, non-competitive, and judgment-free environment.

Build strong, supportive relationships with participants and foster group community.

Provide encouragement, feedback, and individualized modifications as appropriate.

Be accessible to participants before and after sessions and provide follow-up as needed.

Preparation & Program Fidelity

Prepare for each session by reviewing curriculum, participant data, and prior session notes.

Conduct functional assessments, fitness checks, and/or registration activities as required by the specific program.

Maintain fidelity to all assigned program models and YMCA standards.

Data, Documentation & Communication

Accurately record attendance, assessments, and required participant data using YMCA systems.

Maintain participant confidentiality and comply with all data and documentation requirements.

Communicate regularly with the Program Manager regarding participant progress, attendance, and program needs.

Logistics & Professional Expectations

Travel to community and branch locations for program delivery as needed.

Arrive on time, dressed appropriately, and prepared to lead each session.

Support participant retention and engagement through consistent communication and relationship-building.
