What Is a Health and Wellness Coach?

A health and wellness coach helps clients recognize potential health problems with their current lifestyle and develop healthy habits. Other responsibilities include providing individualized attention to each of your clients; you help them determine their goals, identify obstacles, and create a plan to overcome challenges. Health and wellness coaches must also be able to keep their clients motivated when they encounter drawbacks in their plans. Excellent communication skills are a must for you to fulfill your duties of engaging and inspiring clients to succeed.

What qualifications do you need to be a holistic health coach?

To become a holistic health coach, individuals typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, along with certification from a recognized program such as the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) or similar. Relevant skills include knowledge of nutrition, lifestyle coaching, and wellness practices, and some states or employers may require specific licensing or insurance coverage.

How do Health and Wellness Coaches typically collaborate with other healthcare professionals to support clients?

Health and Wellness Coaches often work closely with a variety of healthcare professionals, such as physicians, nutritionists, and mental health counselors, to provide comprehensive support for their clients. They may participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, share client progress updates (with consent), and help implement care plans developed by other specialists.
