The Louisiana Special School District (LSSD) is an education service agency that provides services to the Louisiana Special Schools (Louisiana School for the Deaf, Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired, and Special School Programs). The schools provide educational opportunities to students with low-incidence disabilities and a variety of unique needs.

We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Administrative Assistant 5 to provide advanced administrative support to senior leadership and ensure efficient daily operations. This role requires discretion, initiative, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage complex administrative tasks with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of experience in administrative services.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as six months of experience.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Manages the Key Library Automation System (KLAS): Maintains patron and student records, processes materials requests through the online ordering portal, generates purchase orders, and keeps inventory data clean and accurate for state reporting purposes.

  • Handles Federal Quota Census Work: Serves as ex-officio assistant for the Annual Federal Quota Census Count, supporting LEAs through all three phases of registration and making sure student data is correctly submitted to the American Printing House student registration database.

  • Research and Order Accessible Materials: Searches for textbooks in braille, large print, and digital formats, then coordinates purchase requests through both federal quota and state fund channels depending on what's needed.

  • Serves as Payroll Manager.

  • Manages supplies and equipment, tracks order statuses for LEAs, and maintains organized files for patrons including eye reports, parental permission forms, and packing slips.

  • Maintain inventory.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional. The chosen application will be required to take a probationary appointment.

Location:The Administrative Assistant 5 position is located at the LA Special School District in Baton Rouge, LA.

Work Schedule: Typically, work hours are 8:00 am-4:30 pm Monday - Friday.
