Job Title: Senior Accountant
Reports to: Corporate Accounting Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Purpose: We are seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented Senior Accountant who can perform core accounting functions while also supporting higher-level responsibilities by assisting the Controller and Corporate Accounting Manager. This role is designed for an experienced accountant who can support month-end close, prepare and analyze financial statements, oversee key accounting processes, and support GAAP-compliant reporting, including Percentage-of-Completion (POC) Accounting. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, excellent analytical capability, and the desire to contribute to a growing organization through continuous improvement of processes, controls, and reporting. This position requires a high level of professionalism, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a commitment to serving both internal and external customers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Core Accounting & Month-End Close
- Analyze monthly general ledger activity, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and proper GAAP classification.
- Manage fixed asset accounting across multiple business branches
- Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations; support balance sheet analysis and month-end financial reporting.
- Ensure accurate allocation of shared corporate resources across entities and branches
- Record bank transactions and ensure proper classification and timeliness.
- Maintain key accounting spreadsheets to support financial transactions, expenses, and internal reporting.
- Cross-train with AP and other accounting team members to provide operational backup.
Financial Reporting & GAAP Compliance
- Assist in preparing monthly and annual financial statements.
- Ensure proper sales tax filing and reporting
- Ensure compliance with ASC 606, internal accounting policies, and sound financial controls.
- Support the Controller and Accounting Managers with audit preparation, including preliminary and year-end audit requirements.
- Assist in quarterly reporting and ad-hoc reporting deliverables.
Subsidiary & Joint Venture Accounting
- Assist in accounting for the 80%-owned joint venture utilizing POC accounting.
Planning, Analysis, & Forecasting Support
- Assist with budgeting and financial forecasting activities, including variance analysis.
- Analyze financial performance and provide insights to support cost control, operational efficiency, and resource utilization.
Process Improvement & Leadership
- Recommend and help implement process improvements, automation, and workflow efficiencies.
- Maintain a high standard of confidentiality, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Contribute to team culture by leading through positive attitude, accountability, and strong communication.
- Participate in special accounting and financial projects as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Education & Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required (CPA license or progress toward licensure strongly preferred).
- Public accounting experience highly preferred.
Experience
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience in construction, engineering, manufacturing, or other project-based industries preferred.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and explain financial data.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling).
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively across departments and with all levels of staff.
